Chapter 6 The King’s Chamber

EVELYN Daniella leaned in and yanked the hair tie from my head, letting my hair fall across my face in disarray. She twisted the tie in her hand and smirked, “now, much better.” “What do you want?” I glared at her. I hadn’t expected she’d be so bold. It was true that she had been constantly bullying me with her little clique, but all of it had been petty tricks – tossing dirt into my dish, sticking out her leg to trip me as I passed. Maybe I had underestimated her. I was annoyed at myself for not staying more alerted, and not reacting faster. I should’ve gripped the paring knife in my hand before I trudged down the dark corridor and approached the washroom. “What do I want?” Daniella laughed. “I told you I’d make you pay, Evelyn. You never thought I meant it, did you? You’re as ignorant and self-centered as ever.” “You better stop. Mrs. Porter wouldn’t tolerate this,” I warned. “She may hate me, but she wouldn’t stand by and acquiesce to this if she found out – ” Daniella slapped me again. This time, my head snapped to the side at the force. “You really are a fool,” she said, leaning in closer. “What do you think she’ll say when she finds you f****d naked and ruined, yet still yearning for more the next morning? When she realizes you shamelessly seduced a diligent servant.” She exchanged a smug, complicit glance with the man, and he echoed with a grin, “Can’t blame me. Being seduced by a shameless slut like her is hard to resist.” My stomach dropped. Daniella gave me a malicious smile. “If you grovel in front of me and kiss my toe, I might be merciful enough to keep it a secret from her. What do you think?” “You’re mad,” I spat. Daniella’s eyes darkened. She yanked my hair hard, and I winced at the pain. My scalp burned. “Do you know what I hate most about you?” She hissed. “That superior air of yours. The way you walk, the tone of your voice, even the look in your eyes – it’s sickening. You're nothing but a common w***e, yet you still carry yourself like a noble. Well, I'm going to knock that right out of you.” She pulled out a small bottle of liquid and gripped my jaw. “They say this can turn the most chaste angle into a slut. Let’s see if it works.” Her other hand pried at my lips. Blood rushed in my veins. Horror gripped my chest. I clenched my lips shut and struggled wildly. The servant drove on my stomach, and my head reeled. Daniella forced open my jaw and poured the potion onto my tongue. I writhed, trying to spit it out, but the servant clamped his hand around my throat and forced me to swallow. I choked as it went down, I coughed frantically in a desperate attempt to vomit it back up. But I couldn’t. “You’ll love it,” Daniella whispered into my ear. She turned to the man with a mocking gesture. “Willy, you want to enjoy her body, don’t you. She’s yours for the whole night.” The servant named Willy whistled lustfully. I began to pant. Heat rose from my belly, and my heart pounded heavily against my ribs. A dull, throbbing ache bloomed in my core. “Have fun, Evelyn,” Daniella said with a final glance before turning to the timid maid cowering in the corner. The maid looked at me in panic, but followed Daniella out. Then the door shut. “Never thought I’d get to taste the King’s woman,” Willy purred against my ear, his finger trailing along my neck. Goosebumps spread from where he touched me. I managed a warning hiss, but it only amused him further. “I love tame the naughty,” he said, leaning in for a better look. “Look at those marks. His Majesty must’ve had a hard time with you.” I fought against the sensation growing inside me. I tried to focus, to extend my claws and strike, but I couldn’t. My limbs weakened. My mind clouded with a warm haze. My cheeks burned. My knees trembled. But I had a knife. I needed to get it. I bit hard into my lip, clinging to the last wisp of clarity. “Your skin’s so delicate. Not like Dani’s,” he said, his breath growing heavy as he inhaled deeply near me. “Why don’t you release me?” I said through clenched teeth, feigning seduction. “It’ll work better that way. I don’t want you tearing my uniform.” He looked at me suspiciously. I had stopped struggling – he must have noticed. “I like it soft,” I added. He studied me for a moment longer, then he laughed. “You’re are a slut! The King can’t satisfy you, can he? Don’t worry, I’ll make you moan all night.” He pressed against me, his hands moving to the buttons of my uniform. That was my chance. My fingers gripped the hilt of the knife. I pulled it free and slashed at his shoulder – I missed. He stumbled backward, face twisted in fury. “You dirty w***e!” He roared and lunged at me. I tried to dodge, but my knees gave out. He gripped my ankle. I slashed again. He retreated. I took the chance to scramble toward the door. My blood ran cold when I found the latch locked from outside. The washroom had always had an external latch to prevent unauthorized use. “Help!” I screamed. Silence met me from the other side. The man cackled behind me, eyes blazing with rage. “No one’s hearing you. I’ll ruin you, bitch.” He lunged again, grabbing my wrist and pinning me under him. His fingers wrapped around my throat, tightening. Then—a knock at the door. The latch clicked open. The man froze. I seized the moment, swiping the knife again. Adrenaline surged through my vein. The wolf within me screamed for blood. I plunged the blade deep into his chest. He screamed. I quickly shoved him off and scrambled for the door. Outside, the corridor was empty. I didn’t know who had unlatched the door or why they had helped me—but I wasn’t about to slow down to find out. I wanted to return to my room, but the potion's effects were intensifying. Fire coursed through my body. My vision swirled. I had no idea where my feet were carrying me. I thought I was heading to the maids’ wing, but everything around me was too grand. Gold candle brackets, red-velvet curtains, thick rug stretched along the corridor, and solemn-looking guards stood watch. They glanced at me with puzzlement as I stumbled past, but none moved to stop me. It was as if they were used to my presence here. Then, I stepped into a dark room thick with his scent—a scent that made every fiber of me shudder. I realized I’d come to the wrong place. The King’s chamber.
