After a moment of inspection, Leila straightened, her expression grave.
“She’s been poisoned. And the toxin seems fast-acting and potent. It should be the sweet she ate—but like Lady Jasmine said, if that were the case, we’d all be dead by now.”
“It could’ve been poisoned after she picked it up!” Skyla interjected sharply. Her eyes flicked toward Jessica, who remained frozen in place, her face pale with shock. Skyla’s gaze darkened with accusation. “Her maid! It has to be her! She could’ve hidden the poison beneath her nail and slipped it onto the sweet while Georgina wasn’t paying attention.”
Jessica’s eyes widened in horror. She dropped to her knees with a desperate cry..
“No! I didn’t! I swear, I would never hurt Lady Georgina! Please, Your Majesty—please believe me!”
