EVELYN I followed the guard through the dark corridor, and it didn’t take long to realize we weren’t heading to the King’s Quarters or the Iron Room. He walked so briskly that I nearly had to run to keep up with him. “W-where are we going?” I asked, breathless. “You will find out when we arrive,” he replied vaguely. We continued in silence for several minutes until we stopped at a plain, windowless wall. The guard opened a door. A rush of cool, humid air swept in, prickling my skin.
