I froze. For a second, I couldn’t even breathe properly. My heart was pounding so loudly it drowned everything else out, every instinct screaming at me to move, to run, to do something—but my body wouldn’t cooperate. Because I wasn’t imagining it this time. Someone was there. Standing just inside the doorway behind me. Not rushing forward. Not speaking. Just… there. Watching.
