I changed three times. Then changed back into the first outfit. Then stood staring at myself in the mirror like it might suddenly give me a better answer. “This is ridiculous,” I muttered. Behind me, Bessie was sprawled across the bed, watching me with far too much enjoyment. “You’ve said that five times already. If it was that ridiculous, you wouldn’t be going.” “I’m only going because I already said yes.” “Mhm.” I shot her a look. “Don’t.” “I didn’t say anything.” “You didn’t have to.” She grinned. “You like him.” “I don’t even know him.” “That’s not what I said.” I turned back to the mirror, trying to ignore the way my stomach had been doing strange, unhelpful things since he’d walked away earlier.
