CHAPTER 14

1779 Words
Henry sat anxiously in the private room he had booked earlier. He was getting into all kind of trouble, thanks to his two notorious children but there was nothing else he could do about it. All he wanted was happiness for his children. If they were happy then he would die with no regrets. He wouldn't want anyone to be forced into something they wouldn't be willing to. Just like how he married for love, he wanted his children to have the same fate too. The door suddenly got opened and his good friend walked in. Henry stood up to welcome Cain with a smile on his face. 'I was shocked to hear from you all of a sudden, i hope all is well my friend,' Cain said as he approached him. Henry laughed seeing how the man never changes. 'Hello to you too friend,' Henry said as he sat down. 'I wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon,' Cain said as he settled. 'It was an emergency, i am sorry that i had to disrupt you from your engagements.' 'As long it is you, i can leave anything to meet you.' 'I am glad to hear that but i am afraid i am not a bearer of good news today,' Henry sighed. 'I have a feeling that this concern the kids!' 'You truly have good insight,' Henry said and stopped talking since the servers brought in food for them. 'I had a feeling about this. So tell me, is this engagement going on?' 'I am afraid that won't be possible. I should have talked to my son before dropping the bomb on him. He is in love with another and i can't force him to marry Janet,' Henry confessed and saw the look on Cain's face. He wasn't angry or delighted at all. Cain took a sip of his wine and watched Henry before putting on a smile on his face. 'I knew this was going to happen but i couldn't stop it after all Janet has been deeply in love with your son for a very long time now,' Can said and that surprised Henry who didn't think that his friend will take it so lightly. 'You aren't mad at me for everything?' 'I wish i could but i understand it very well. I guess this is good for everyone. I wouldn't want my daughter to be stuck with someone who loves another especially when i personally saw how much your son is in love,' Cain said as he put the salad in his mouth. 'So you are well aware of who Harvey is seeing?' 'Yes, your youngest daughter.' 'But how?' 'I will be a total fool if i haven't seen how those two were back at dinner. I know that look, i still have it whenever i think of my beautiful wife,' Cain chuckled and Henry followed suit. 'I am glad that we are settling things. I would have hate it if our relationship got messed up because of this,' Henry said as he took a deep breath and sipped his wine also. 'The happiness of our family should come first. I am glad that you personally told me, i would have been angry at you if you haven't done that.' The two men looked at each other and laughed. After leaving the hot topic they enjoyed their meal and conversed about the business and the economy like true businessmen. Later the two men hugged each other and bided each other farewell. Henry was happy, he hadn't expected things to go this smooth when he left home but it did. Since everything was settled, he just had to go home and tell his worried wife that all had been settled. He didn't like it when his wife was worried, especially when the subject were the kids.                                                                                                     **** Janet didn't think this day would come for her. She was so furious that she left the house and drove to the club where she was going to forget about everything.  She was busy drowning herself in sorrow when a familiar face joined her.  'Can i join you?'  'If that's what you want then go ahead,' she answered sarcastically. The guest joined her despite of her rudeness. Janet looked at him and found herself intrigued by what she was seeing. This young man was handsome and she had not seen this before since her eyes were glued to Harvey all this years. She had always thought that she and Harvey were molded for each other but who knew he will end up with Ruby instead of her? 'What is troubling you?'  'Why will you be worried about someone else's business Taylor?' Janet asked looking at her senior who was known for being cold that he didn't even glance at other people, so why was he talking to her? 'Because it's you,' he said without shying away and she turned red like a tomato. No one has ever said those words before, they sounded genuine and pleasing to her ears. 'Are you trying to take advantage of me?' Janet asked, she was now on edge. She was having a hard time accepting what he had just said. 'I will never take advantage of someone who is half drunk. I will woo you when you are sober,' he said with a smile and she felt her heart flutter. What was this feeling? 'Fine, i will tell you,' she gave up after hearing his words. It wouldn't hurt telling someone else, after all she might gain some insight on the matter from another person's point of view rather than hers alone. So Janet told Taylor everything about her worries and she watched as he smiled. 'Why are you smiling? Are you happy that i have suffered this?' Janet was angry at her senior. Instead of comforting her, he was smiling. He seemed to be happy with the situation and she didn't like that at all. 'I am just in awe, i haven't seen a lot of people who are courageous like him. Those two are definitely in love if they had guts to publicize their relationship like that. As for you, i think you mistook your feelings for love since you were both friends. I don't want to say a lot of hurtful words to you but i will advice you to forget about him and look deep into your heart and check again. All the answers you seek are deep within you. Be sober and think,' Taylor said. Janet was shocked, no one has ever said such words to her before. Taylor surely had guts to spill something like that to her. She knew that he said the truth but it was difficult for her to accept. But after hearing all those words from him she began to feel a lot better. If everyone could be honest like him then her world will surely be better. She laughed all of a sudden, it was hilarious. She wasn't thinking about Harvey anymore but her thoughts were now filled with Taylor. Was she going crazy? 'You look much better now,' he said giving her a killer smile and she shuddered. Now she understood why her senior was popular and loved by all females at school. He had this certain aura and charisma that drives anyone crazy. How can she not be affected? 'It's because you are here with me now,' she said looking at him with a smile. 'I am glad that i was of great service to you. Now leave this club and sober up. It's dangerous to be in this kind of places alone and drunk too. We wouldn't want anything bad happening to you,' Taylor said, his voice full of concern and that second she knew. This was her man and she was going to pursue him no matter what. No one has ever cared for her the way Taylor was at the moment. She wanted to be in that position like Ruby and Taylor was her Harvey and she wasn't going to let go. 'Can i have your number then? So that i will call you when i reach home safely.' 'Sure,' he said and gave it to her. She was so excited as she took back her phone from him. 'Thank you for tonight,' Janet said. 'It's nothing.' Taylor took Janet outside where her car was and he called a designated driver for her. 'Call me, when you reach home,' Taylor called out as the car pulled away. Janet had already sobered up and was all smiles as she went back home. She paid the driver for his services before going inside the house where her mother was anxiously waiting for her. 'I am sorry about today,' Janet apologized the second she saw the haggard look on her mother's beautiful face. 'Oh my baby, come here,' she said and Janet went into her warm embrace. 'I won't worry you again,' she said tears streaming down her cheeks. 'As long as you are fine then this mother can be at peace.' Whilst hugging her mother, Janet became enlightened once more. She realized that if she had continued pursuing the issue with Harvey she would have lost everything that mattered to her including her own family. What she had for him was surely an obsession and it was a good thing she realized it sooner before things got serious. She felt her burden lifting up. She felt at peace and for the first time in many years she felt at peace. 'You should go to bed now and rest. You must be tired,' her mother said breaking the hug. 'Okay mom. Goodnight,' Janet said and kissed her goodbye before she went upstairs for her bedroom. Janet took a shower first before crawling into bed. She smiled as she thought of the earlier events. Taylor was going to be a nice catch but this time she was going to be tactful since she knows what she wants. Janet vowed to herself as she went to bed that night. She was going to live a life with no regrets, love whoever she wanted in the proper way but above all she was going to do things that makes her happy. She was going to be with someone who cares for her and love her. Even though Harvey was like a curse to her, he was also a blessing in disguise. Because of Harvey and Ruby, she learnt that love has no boundaries, of you love someone then you will go to any lengths to be with that person, protect and love, but above all make that person happy even if it means to leave. With all that in mind, she was at peace and finally dosed off.
