CHAPTER 1

2842 Words
SIXTEEN YEARS LATER There was one thing she had always hated ever since she was a kid and that was to be bullied. Those older girls bullied her ever since she was five years old but that all changed the second her mother remarried. She learnt to be strong and she achieved it that she could now even protect her younger siblings too. Ruby sat in her office looking over the window and monitoring the students that were busy having their normal school life. As the University's student council president she had a lot of things to do. It was funny how she got the position in the first place. While others remain in the seat for one year, she was the only one who was in that seat for two years. No one seemed to remove her from her seat and it was quite fun. She loved and loathed what she had become but she could change the world and reshape it in an image she thought was the best. There was a sudden knock on her door and she turned around to face the door. 'Come in,' she said and watched as the door got opened and a council member walked in. 'I am sorry to disturb you but the Principal would like a word with you,' he said. 'Sure, i will go and meet him right away,' Ruby said and stood up. She took her jacket and put it on before she left her office. There were great benefits of being the president like she was. The student council was the biggest board that manages all student's affairs at school; whatever the students do, that all passes through her. She was the representative of all students and fight for them especially against the teaching board. The council had their building which comprises of different offices of management. She as the president ,she has her own office, personal parking space and an allowance from the school too. Not that she wanted all that, her family was well enough already. She arrived at the administration office and walked straight into the principal office. The secretary sends her in into the office. She found the middle aged man waiting for her with a huge smile on his face. 'Good afternoon sir,' she said as soon as she stood in front of him. 'Take a seat Ruby,' he said and she did. 'Why am i here?' she asked directly. 'This is why i like you, you always get to the point first. The second years will be going for a one week trip in two days,' he said. 'I know about that. Is something wrong?' she asked. 'Not really. We can not let them go alone, which is why you will be going along them,' he said and she was shocked. 'You know i can not go to the junior's trip. I have responsibilities, assignments to do. Besides i did not pay for the trip, she retaliated. 'I know which is why you will be exempt of all those things. You may take your time to finish those assignments and the trip is paid for already. All you have to do is to go out there and have as much fun as you can and make sure that the juniors are well taken care of,' the principal said and she could not believe it at all. 'Since i do not have a choice at all for this, how about we strike a deal?' she gave him her poker face and she saw his face changing. 'I thought we would not go this far today,' he said and she smiled. 'You know exactly the kind of person i am sir and yet you resorted to this.' 'Fine, what do you want?' 'After the one week trip with the juniors, i would like to host a party for all seniors. They have been working so hard and it is time to repay them,' she said. 'Is that the only thing that you want?' 'Yes, of course all seniors will join the party. We can use this chance to raise something for any project we might think of,' she said. 'I will talk this with the board, i promise.' 'I will put my trust in you. I will take my leave if there is nothing else sir,' she said. 'Okay, just be ready for the trip then.' Ruby bided the man farewell and left his office. While outside of the block she saw her friends waiting for her. 'Did you get yourself into trouble?' Alex asked. 'As if and even if i did, who can ask me that?' 'Girl, you are still trouble,' Nancy said laughing. 'How about we go to the cafeteria and have something to drink. I have something i need to tell you,' Ruby said with a calm voice. 'Okay,' Nancy said. The four of them went to the cafeteria and sat in their usual spot. They have been sitting there ever since they were freshmen and everyone knew the consequences of sitting there. The server knew their preferences so she just cane with the beverages and snacks. 'So what is happening?' Jack asked her. 'You know that trip for the second years we organized?' 'Yes, aren't they leaving in two days?' 'Indeed they are and so are we,' Ruby said with a smile on her face. 'What are you talking about?' Nancy asked, sounding surprised. 'Why will we be going to a juniors trip especially now?' Alex asked. 'The principal is worried and so be wants us to join them. Besides it will be fun. It has been too long since i was away from all these books. I just need to rest and forget about school,' Ruby said. 'That is a point. We might as well just join them and have fun. So who is paying for the trip?' Nancy asked. 'Seriously girl, isn't your family one of the richest in the city?' Alex asked. 'So what if they are? I can't just pay for a trip that i never planned for,' Nancy said and they all laughed. Ruby ate her chips in silence and watched as her friends bicker at each other for a long time. They were always like this and it was fun to watch. 'The school will pay for everything. All we have to do is pack out bags and make sure our passports are nearby and it is all settled,' Ruby explained. 'What about the assignments?' Nancy asked. 'We will hand them over when we return but for now, let us just focus on the issue we have now. And another thing, i stroke a deal with the old man.' 'Did he say yes?' Nancy asked her voice full of unhidden joy. 'He promised he will talk to the board and if they agree we will host a party for the seniors,' Ruby told them. 'You asked for a party?' 'Yes i did. You know how the seniors love partying. I might as well just give them an early present,' Ruby said sipping her soda. 'They will be happy to know that,' Alex said. 'But hey guys don't you think that one person will be happy with all this arrangement?' Jack asked suddenly and they all looked at him. 'What do you mean?' Ruby asked as if she didn't get what her friend was talking about. 'Your little brother, does he know that you will be joining him?' Alex asked nd Ruby smiled. 'Not yet. I will tell him when we reach home. I want it to be a surprise. Don't even tell him,' Ruby said. 'We won't. How about you just show up at the airport?' Alex suggested. 'That's a good idea. I will wait until the day of the trip to tell him,' Ruby finally decided. 'I can already see the look on his face,' Jack said with a smile on his face. 'I can too.' 'So how about we return back to class now. The lecture will begin in ten minutes,' Alex said and they all checked their watches. 's**t, i totally forgot,' Ruby cursed. 'I can see why he remembers. Why won't you just tell her how you feel?' Nancy said as they stood up. Ruby listened to another bickering of her friends as she paid for the beverages with her card. 'I wish i could but you know her. I bet she will curse me and even hit me,' Alex said defended himself. Ruby could not help it but smile as they all walked back to the lecture hall. It was always like this. Attacking and comforting each other as if it was normal. But it was things like this that made them stronger each day. Just thinking of how they met each other back then made her heart flutter. They were lucky to arrive in the hall before the professor arrived. Their tablets were already in their place. Their minions knew how to do their duties very well. She typed her notes well and. smiled once again as she lifted her head to look at the door. Seeing Faith brought back many memories. She was in her last weeks of being a second year when she noticed something awful happening. As someone who used to bully others, she understood that feeling a lot. She bullied others so that she may not be bullied but with time she did not have to at all. She made a reputation for herself that no one even thought of harassing her or her younger brother. Since she retired from that, she was so mad to see a public figure whom everyone admires bullying a fellow student. How could a student council president bully a girl like that? Not liking what was happening, she ended up facing the guy who was admired and worshipped by almost every female student at school. She did not tolerate anyone who had guts to bully and molest weak girls. The second she faced the guy, the next thing she knew they were both in the police station. She had beaten the guy that he suffered some fractured ribs. She saw the look in her parents faces and knew she had disappointed them once again. But what she never expected was the way they stood up for her even in that situation. 'You should ask why our daughter resorted to those means first before you start throwing insults,' her mother said angrily. 'I know you are both respected individuals but how can you raise your child like that?' 'I should be asking you that question, ma'am. Is that how you raised your perfect son? How can he molest girls at school like that?' Ruby interrupted and drew everyone's attention. 'What are you talking about?' the woman asked. 'I have the evidence here. I saw him forcing a freshman which is why i taught him a lesson. I just could not stand it. How can he be a pervert?' she blurted out. She showed everyone the video which had caused a huge ruckus in the police station. They ended up settling the matter and no one was arrested but she managed to have the student council president removed from his post immediately. Since her parents were very furious about her behavior they thought it was for the best of she took on the position herself. That way she will not have to beat anyone again and the school will not have to suffer any negative publicity just in case she strikes again. By saving a weak girl she became the next president. She could now protect anyone without using her fists which she missed very much but when they though they were punishing they were actually blessing her in disguise. She became the most respected student in the campus. She did not see how time flew as she printed the materials she needed for her assignment. She was busy stapling them when the door got opened again. When she raised her head she wasn't surprised to see who was standing there. 'Aren't you going home? It's already past six in the evening,' he asked smiling at her. Ruby looked at her watch and sighed. 'Sorry, I lost track of time. Come and give me a hand and i will be done in a sec,' she said with a smile. 'Sure.' She smiled as she saw her hunk young brother walking towards her. He was voted as the hottest and handsome guy on campus. He had the looks and the body. She got so tired of seeing these girls professing their undying love to him and yet he rejected them all. He was really something. He stopped right in front of her and she looked at him. He leaned in closer and kissed her lightly on the lips. It was shocking to those people who didn't know them well but this was normal for them. She kissed him back and smiled. 'Did you see my friends?' she asked him. 'They are outside busy disciplining some students they caught. Why did they refuse to join the council when they like doing that a lot?' 'They didn't want to be restrained like me,' Ruby said. 'But you don't look restrained at all,' he said taking her files and placing them in her bag. 'Trust me, I am.' 'I am done. Is there something else?' he asked her. 'No, i think we are all done here. Let's go,' she said. Harvey, her brother took her bags while she followed from behind. She locked the door and followed her brother outside where she really found her friends busy disciplining some students. 'Seriously guys, just let the kids go,' she said laughing. 'You will be shocked when you hear what they were doing,' Nancy said with a smirk on her face. 'Tell me,' she said full on curiosity. 'They were in the basketball lockers making out. Can you believe that at this hour?' Nancy asked. 'Come on, just let them go,' Ruby said. 'You are lucky, she is merciful. You can go now,' Nancy said releasing them. Ruby looked at the freshmen and smiled. 'Next time don't get caught,' she said and they thanked her before they left. 'Come on, that was fun,' Alex said. 'I know but it's getting late and why resort to making them suffer? It's not like you all never made out there,' Ruby said. 'We did but....' 'Leave the kids alone and guys sorry for keeping you this late,' Ruby apologized. 'We understand. So where are we going tonight?' Jack asked, already in the mood for some fun. 'I can't go anywhere tonight. I need to finish my assignment, so i will head home straight,' Ruby said and  they all looked at her. 'I almost forgot. We need to finish it quickly if we want to be free next week,' Alex said. They all agreed and didn't say a word since they didn't want Harvey to find out about what was really going on. 'I will see you guys tomorrow,' Ruby said and hugged her bestfriends goodbye before getting into her car. Her friends did the same and she watched  then as they all drove off in their own directions. Ruby and Harvey were siblings and they lived in the same house but they still went to school in their own cars. It was good that way, she respected one's privacy. She smiled at her younger brother and he sent her a text. She opened  it and smiled as she read the contents. "Let's race. The winner will make a wish." "Deal," she replied. This was what was normal in her daily life. They played this game so many times and the winner was always determined at the end. The two of them raced from the school until they reached their house. The guards even knew that the gates should always be open at moments like this because they always sped into the compound. Harvey won that round and she smiled as she got out of the car. 'Did you have to drive like that?' she asked him as she took her bags from the car. 'If you play a game you should play to win,' Harvey replied with a smile on his face. 'I hate you,' Ruby said even when she knew it was all a lie. 'I know you don't.' The butler took their bags and they began to chase each other around the compound when her mother showed up and screamed both their names. 'Must she always do that every time?' Ruby asked as she stopped. 'That's her way of welcoming us back from school,' Harvey said with a smile. 'I don't understand you at all,' Ruby said and began to walk towards her mother. She gave her a hug and kissed her cheek 'Don't frown like that, you will age quickly,' Ruby said. 'How can i not when you two always do this every day? Aren't you scared of your lives?' 'Sorry mother, we won't do it again,' Harvey said as he kissed both of her cheeks. 'You always say the same thing every time.' Ruby and Harvey dragged their mother inside and battered her up until she forgot that a few minutes before she was angry. This was one of the reasons why she loved her mother so much, she forgave easily. She was an easy going person who hates being angry and just wanted to be happy. With her and her step father, you wouldn't see them quarrelling at all even when her step father was a bit older than her mother. She just loved them so much and now she was wondering exactly what her brother was going to wish for since he had won this race. End of chapter 1..... Enjoy Will keep on updating the story
