Chapter 6 Dragged into Darkness

740 Words
Hector seemed to realize how badly he had done, so for the next several days, he stayed right by Christina's side, taking care of her with quiet devotion. Of course, that set Bianca off. She threw a massive fit at home, screaming that if Hector did not come back immediately, she would jump from the third floor. Christina could see the flash of genuine fear in Hector's eyes when he heard the threat. She braced herself, expecting him to rush back to Bianca, but instead, he refused in a hard, unyielding voice and hung up the call without another word. The moment Bianca realized she had pushed him too far, she stopped the tantrum completely. In a sweet, almost innocent tone, she told him to stay and look after Christina. She would wait patiently for him to return. But she did not stop watching over him. From the second she calmed down, she kept a video call running with Hector nonstop, never hanging up for even a second, terrified they might share even the smallest moment of closeness. Christina almost laughed at the bitter irony. Once upon a time, Hector had called her constantly from Larson Manor just to make her feel safe, describing every second of his day. Now he was doing exactly the same thing, only the woman he wanted to reassure was no longer her. The constant feeling of being watched made Christina deeply uncomfortable. Eventually, she could not stand it any longer and forced Hector to go back to the Larson Manor. That same night, Bianca sent her a single photo. In the picture, Hector held Bianca gently in his arms, carefully rubbing pregnancy oil across her belly with tender focus. Even through the screen, Christina could feel the raw, mocking triumph radiating from Bianca. She stared at the image for a long time. Each second felt like a blade slicing slowly across her heart. The next morning, just as dawn broke, Bianca burst into Christina's small rented apartment with a group of bodyguards in tow. Before Christina could even react, the guards seized her arms. The next second, Bianca's palm cracked across her face. "Christina, you filthy w***e, Hector is my husband! Get the hell out of his life, or I swear I will end you!" The slap left Christina's head spinning. A wave of burning humiliation threatened to swallow her whole. Then, out of nowhere, a surge of strength flooded her body. She wrenched free from the guards' grip and clamped her hands around Bianca's throat. Bianca screamed and collapsed to the floor. The bodyguards lunged to pull Christina off, but her grip only tightened the harder they yanked. It was as if all the pain and rage she had buried for years had finally exploded. Just as Bianca's face began turning blue, a dark shadow slammed into Christina from the side. She crashed to the ground, her temple smashing hard against the corner of a table. Pain exploded behind her eyes. The moment Bianca saw Hector, she burst into dramatic tears and pointed at the red marks on her neck. "Hector, I only came to apologize as you told me to, but she tried to strangle me! She wanted to kill our baby and me! This is attempted murder. I'm pressing charges. She deserves to rot in prison for the rest of her life!" Hector's face turned to stone when he saw the bruises. Without a word, he grabbed Christina's wrist and dragged her out of the apartment. By the time she realized what was happening, he had pulled her all the way to the heavy metal door of Larson Manor's basement. "Christina, did I not tell you Bianca cannot be stressed? Why can't you show a little kindness to someone who is sick? Do you actually want to drive her to her death?" Christina's hands flew in furious signs. "You saw the bruises on my face! I was hit first. Am I not allowed to defend myself?" Hector looked straight through her as if she had not spoken at all. His voice was cold with disappointment. "I don't want to hear your excuses. I will only believe what my own eyes tell me." Christina signed desperately, trying to explain the truth, but Hector simply closed his eyes so he would not have to watch. With one rough shove, he pushed her into the dark basement and slammed the door shut behind her.
