Chapter 4…The Big Lizard
There wasn’t anything to it. We just stepped through. Perhaps there was a little physical reaction that would have hit a person not in good condition. With me, it was a slight chill. Goose pimples. But that could have been emotional.
Nothing at all.
We stepped into the ring and took one step and the scene changed. That was it. We were outdoors. The sun was shining and there was a breeze blowing and my first thought was, We haven’t gone anywhere. We can’t see them, but they’re still here—Dad, standing at the edge of the platform hiding everything behind a wall he’d built for the occasion; Gabe, and Lee, and Dave at the control board.
I looked at Pete and said, “We didn’t go anywhere.”
There was a tight smile on his face and I guess he’d gotten the same sensatio
