Chapter 6…Serpents with Wings
That reunion was something to remember for a long time. First, there was a quick and joyful loosening up of everything. Pete jumped up from where he’d been sleeping and reached Doc Tom, who had one knee on the ledge. Pete grabbed him and pulled him up and they went into a clinch.
Pete didn’t exactly break down, but he was as close as you can come to hysterical joy without falling into it like a kid into a swimming pool.
Then Doc Tom held Pete off and smiled and said, “Glad to see you, Son.”
