“Inmate Gold! Fold up your sheets. You’re shipping out. It’s time to cuff up. We don’t want any trouble from you.”
“Where am I going to?” I had been sitting in the jail cell for a week. I still didn’t know where I was heading off to. The prison system was notorious for keeping inmates in the dark.
“The federal prison in Newark.”
“Did you say Newark or New York?”
“Newark! The federal prison in New York is overcrowded. Don’t worry, you will have a good time there. It’s a maximum-security prison. A lot of your fellow drug traffickers will be there with you. You’ll fit right in my friend,” said the corrections officer.
The guard escorted me out and handcuffed me to another inmate. There were twenty other inmates in jail that were going to be shipped out.
