THE RIVA’S OBSESSION

1005 Words
Days went fast, hiding in woods. Lukan led them, eyes keen for danger. Alia stuck close, bound by a strange tie. "We can't flee ever," Kiren said one night. "We must fight our foes soon." Lukan looked at Alia. "Not yet. We need prep, and she too." Alia bristled. "Prep for what? Tell me all about this fate." Lukan stared, intense. "Your fate's big. You hold great power." Alia frowned. "How so? I'm like all others." Lukan smirked. "Your might's locked, but I'll show the way." He neared her. "I'll help. You're mine, my match. Your might means life for us." Kiren came, tense. "Alpha, we've guests. Bad ones." Lukan stood by Alia, shielding her. "Show them," he growled, the sound rumbling up from deep in his chest. Kiren nodded and five figures stepped out from the darkness of the trees – Lycans, their faces distorted in cruel grins. At the front walked a large, muscular male. His eyes blazed with a hungrier light and the sight of them made Alia shiver. "Valen," Lukan snarled, baring his teeth in a feral snarl. "What the hell do you want, you puffed up prick?" Valen's eyes narrowed and he looked at Alia with a slow, deliberate gaze that made her flesh crawl. "Don't you think I can get anything I want, Lukan? I want the girl. And I'll have her." Lukan's body gave a guttural shake, his muscles rippling beneath his skin with suppressed fury. "She's mine, Valen. You lay a finger on her and you're dead." He growled. With a movement that startled her, Valen threw back his head and laughed. The sound was harsh and primitive and Alia didn't miss the fact that he wasn't laughing from humor. "Your mate? f**k, get real, Lukan. She's the child of prophecy, destined to have power over and above any that we can muster." He took a step towards her, his eyes flashing with even more intense hunger. "And I'll have her, Lukan. I'll have her and I'll bind her to me, making my bloodline strong and assuring that I, and not you, am the true Alpha." Alia felt a wave of nausea wash over her and she clenched her hands at her sides, fury making her vision blur. She may not have wanted to be tossed into this world of prophecies and fated mates, but she sure as hell didn't want to belong to anyone else instead of Lukan. Lukan snarled and his big body went rigid as steel. "Over my dead body, Valen. Fate itself has bound her to me. You'll never have her." Valen's face distorted in a savage grin. "Then I'll have to kill you, isn't it?" He moved so fast Alia barely saw the movement. His Lycans attacked, swords raised and eyes blazing with a savage light. Alia took a step back, her heart thumping in her chest. Kiren and the other two Lycans leapt to defend Lukan. Steel sliced against steel. Grunts and snarls filled the air, along with the wet thump of flesh on flesh. Alia watched in horror as her they fell, one by one, their numbers quickly becoming overrun by Valen's pack. Lukan fought like a demon possessed. His huge body weaved in and out among the others, claws shredding flesh, teeth tearing into throats and his fists crashing into bone. But even his inhuman strength couldn't hold back the overwhelming tide of bodies. Valen’s vicious backhand sent Kiren flying across the dirt floor, the beta’s body a hit the ground dangerously almost knocking the air out of him. Alia’s cry was wrenched from her as Lukan let out a furious howl, the rage giving him unexpected strength. It wasn’t enough though. Valen’s Lycans were on him in an instant, teeth and claws tearing into his body. Alia watched in frozen horror as the Alpha who’d taken her as his mate was beaten slowly to the ground, his body limp and still. “No!” she yelled, the sound tearing from her throat as she launched forward, her body and mind screaming to protect what was hers. Valen turned to her, his eyes full of mean joy. "You're mine at last." A deep anger boiled in Alia, a fierce heat ready to burst out. She felt a new force wake up inside, ready to break free. "I'm not owned by you," she spat, her hands tight as the power inside her grew loud. Valen's sure look shook, his proud smile dropped as he stepped back without meaning to. "What...?" Alia let out a wild yell, a deep cry that made the ground under them seem to move. Energy zapped around her, wild force that flung Valen and his Lycans away like toys. The woods went still, only the buzz of power and Alia's hard breaths heard. She looked at her hands, shocked at the strength she had just used. A hurt sound made her turn. Lukan was trying to get up, his body hurt and bloody. She ran over quick, holding his head in her lap. "Lukan, oh gods, I'm so sorry." She whispered, her voice trembling as she brushed matted hair from his brow. His eyes flickered open, glassy with pain, yet still afire with that feral intensity and shock with what he had just witnessed. "Alia." he grated, his voice rattling within his chest. "You just..." Alia shook her head, tears pricking her eyes. "I don't understand how I did it. I let my anger consume me, I couldn't stand the sight of you getting hurt." She stated and wondered how strong the pull of this mate bond was, causing her to act the way she originally wouldn't. But she wouldn't deny the fact that she wanted him, Lukan, just as much as he wanted her. Lukan's hand found hers, his grip surprisingly strong despite his injuries. "It's okay, I'm fine." 'I'm not done with you yet.' I jumped at the echo of the voice. Dark and unquestionable. Lukan noticed. "What's wrong?" 'I'll be back, little bird.'
