The search went on for hours, everyone was told to lock everything and stay indoors away from windows. I had stayed in the office with my mom the whole time. We had come straight here after Susan had ran. My mom was upset that I had not ran with my friend when the commotion happened. But I didn’t answer her, I felt like I couldn’t answer her. I could still feel that black gloop about my neck.
It was just before dawn when my father and grandfather came back from searching. “What’s the status?” Said my mom. “We found Ben out there, lifeless. It seems she went home to get some of her things. That’s when Ben found her, leaving there home. He didn’t even put up a fight, the rest of the tracks show that she ran straight off the property.” Answered my grandfather. “Everyone has been told about what happened and who it was. There are just waiting for the go-ahead that it is safe to leave there houses.” Said my mom.
“How is Holly doing?” My Dad whispered. “Not good, she won’t speak to me. She has been sitting there the whole time. “Hey squirt? You want some food?......... Or a nap?” Asked my grandfather, “Squirt?” He said as he reached over to touch me. “NNNNOOOO! Don’t call me that!” I screamed, “I can feel her... around my neck..... she called me by that name.... I don’t.... no...... please..... keep her away from me.” I said cowering on the couch. “Sh sh sh, its ok honey I’m right here. Mommy is right here and won’t let anything happen to you I promise.”my mom said as she scooped me up and lulled me to sleep.
I woke up later in my bed with some warm moon milk on my bed side table. Still hoping that last night was just a horrible nightmare. I just sat there and drank my delicious Chamomile and lavender moon milk to relax myself. My mom always knew how to make me feel better. And if I’m not mistaken there is probably some fresh Honey rose bread waiting in the kitchen. So I got up with my empty cup and headed to the kitchen.
As I had suspected I could smell the baked goods and moon milk as soon as I opened my door. I could her my mother humming in the kitchen. I loved her voice, it sounded like light rain in the forest. It always relaxed me whenever I felt uneasy. “Are you just gonna loiter or are you gonna come have some of my delicious baked goods.” Said my mom. “I can never resist your baked goods mommy.” I said as i hopped right over to her. She took my cup and refilled it with moon milk. I sat down at the table while she got my plate ready with all the goods.
I ate about half of what was on my plate when I looked up to my mom and asked “Did they find her?” “Who?” Asked my mom. “Susan....... did they find Susan?” I asked. My mom stayed quiet for a bit and then said “No we didn’t find her....... she ran past are territory line and we had already started to lose her tracks. But you don’t have to worry we will make sure she never comes back and hurts anyone ever again. Ok?” “Ok mommy.” I said and went back to eating the rest of my food.
“I wanted to talk to you about something?” Asked my mom. “Ok.” I said “I was thinking that it’s time that we start your training.” Said my mom. “What training? I thought only the boys trained, so they can become warriors.” I said. “Not when your the granddaughter of the chief, or next in line to lead. I started my training at your age. As a Greywood you get the best of both, you train your mind and your body. We will lead are people and protect them, that means that we must know what tactics to use and when, also to be there on the frontline to fight alongside them when its needed.” She paused. “So honey what do you think? Are you ready to start?” She asked. “When can we actually start?” I asked excitedly. “We can go right now to the training area and get started. Just put on some clothes that you can move easily around in and lets go.”
I ran upstairs and into my room. I dug through my closet and found my comfortable workout clothes. I tied my hair as I ran down the stairs. “Alright I’m ready to go!” My mom was already changed and waiting for me when I got downstairs. “Well that was quick.” My mom laughed. “We’re just gonna stop by my office really quick on the way to the training area. Ok?” “Yeah that’s fine with me.” I said. We stopped by and my mom just signed a couple things before she was ready to head to the training area.
Once we got there I couldn’t contain my excitement, I was ready to try everything there. The track field, weights, archery, knives throwing, and hand to hand combat. I saw my dad so I waved at him. He came over “What are my girls doing here? Missing me?” He asked. “Mom says I can start training! Isn’t it exciting?” I said. He frowned and said “What do you need to train here for? Shouldn’t you just train with the other women? That’s what your good at.” “Well mom said because I’m a Greywood that I can do both.” I said. Before my dad could say anything else my mom started pulling him to the side. “One minute sweetheart. Why don’t you go say hi to cousin Henry over by the knife throwing, ok?” She said and I nodded. I ran over and waved at my cousin Henry.
“Hey Henry, whatcha doing?” “Hey twerp I’m just teaching these idiots over here how to throw some knives. What are you doing all the way over here?” He said. “Oh I’m just here to start training.” I said excitedly. “That’s probably why they seem to be in a heated argument over there.” He said in a low voice. “Anyways why don’t I show you some knife throwing, I bet you’ll pick it up quicker then any of these guys.” “Hey I just started and have been working really hard and I can get pretty close to a bullseye.” Said Derek one of the warriors in training.
Henry and the others started showing me how it was done and teaching me some of there tips and tricks. When my mom came over, “How is it going over here?” She asked. “Great! I’m actually gonna do my first try right now. Oh uh where’s dad?” “Oh that grump, he when to go do a couple of important things that needed to get done. Why don’t you she me thou and see how well of a teacher is.” She said, everyone laughed. I walked over and grabbed the five throwing knifes and started throwing them. The first three landed near the bullseye and the last two hit the bullseye.” Everyone erupted in cheers and so did I.
After only a couple hours I had already mastered knife throwing. My mom had come over at this time and said “Well that was quick. I guess we should get started on all the other training to make it a bit harder on you, don’t you think?” “Yeah I ready!” I cheered. “Then let’s get started on some hand to hand combat.”
