It can’t always be easy

Ariel. “Ummm.. good morning sir, I say sitting up and acknowledging the presence of the boss” “Well, I could see you’re getting right into it, that’s good. Is it explanatory?” He asks “Well yes sir, I just started going through it, but I’m still a tad bit confused” I say, my heart almost beating faster than my brain cells were thinking. “Well, it’s good you said so, now let me put you through” “Alright thank you” I smile and he takes a seat on the chair on the other side of the table. “You want to stand?” He asks “Oh!” I say, facepalming myself internally and taking a seat “So you see, the El Viom company has been in debt for over two years now, and they’ve not been able to pay back. They are looking for a company that would invest in them, but investing in them is like wasting my resources because they have little or nothing to offer to myself and my company. They used to be such millionaires and were able to massively invest but after the CEO died, the wife who had no idea of how the company runs was to take over. She was duped by false investors, had to take loans to pay the workers and the previous investors pulled out.” He explained, raising an eye to make sure I was getting what he was saying to me “So now the company hangs on a thread and investing in them might yield little to no profit, so if you are able to convince them into buying the company, you can create it into something more profitable?” I ask “I knew you were not the wrong person I chose, so yeah, that’s basically the hand of it. If you dive into it, you’ll see the expenses that were spent and how they ended up being mismanaged by the company” he said standing up. “Okay, I’ll not flop. Thank you for giving me this job” I say. “You better not flop. I’m counting on you to get us this deal” he adds. “Wait… umm, sorry…. Excuse me sir, but how much are you willing to purchase this company?” I ask, hoping I’m not prying in paths that I’m not meant to cross. “Roughly over a billion” he says and walks out of the office I try not to gag on the words “roughly over a billion” I checked my account balance to see I had little over 200$ and choked on my own thoughts. Roughly over a billion is a lot, but I don’t think it’s enough to buy a company, so this El Viom company must really be dead. I say to myself I keep going through the files and I hear a soft knock on my door. “Come in please” I say respectfully. A young lady walks into the office, she’s slim and has some files in her hand. “Hello ma’am, I’m Emily, and I’ll be your assistant” she says, grinning ear to ear like she just got the job too. “Oh, that’s perfect. Those files in your hands, are they for me?” I ask, already dreading the amount of files in her hands “Oh no ma’am, these are projects that are needed for the week and it was given to me so that I could sort it out.” She says smiling shyly “Alright. And the name is Ariel, Ariel Elaine” I smile “Alright! I’ll take note of that. By the way, my office is just beside yours, if you ring the telecom, I’ll always be at your service. Thank you” she says politely and leaves the office. Few hours passed by and it was finally time to address this client and get this presentation over with. The room had a long table situated in the middle and a large board for what I assumed was used to make illustrations and the projector. It was simple but the features were all complementary. Mr Maxwell, and for some reason Nicholas were already seated. A few members of the board were seated and I took my seat, alongside my assistant. A lady in her mid forties' who I assumed was the owner of El Viom had walked in, with people who I assumed were her assistant and or lawyer. “Now let’s get started, shall we?” Mr Maxwell asked and we all nodded politely. “Well good morning, now, our purpose today is to address the acquisition of the El Viom company, that is currently facing some financial challenges. My secretary Ariel Elaine would be handling it” Mr Maxwell said, gesturing for me to start the presentation. “Good morning” I greet before starting… “ As a key player of the Maxwell company, we understand the need to revitalize and expand portfolios. Over the last years, we know your company, El Viom, has experienced some financial setbacks like declining revenue and market share loss……. “Please get to the point” Mrs El Viom interrupted, taking me off guard and almost making me lose my balance. “We propose a sum of Five hundred million dollars, and I think we both know that’s a really good deal” I say, to everyone’s amazement. I take a sneak peek at Mr Maxwell and see he’s equally shocked “Seven hundred million” One of the guys who I assume were El Viom’s assistant proposed I’m a little distracted by Mr Maxwell clearing his voice and I make eye contact with him. I know what he wants, he wants me to take the deal, but I know the company is not worth up to a million with their years of debt. “Now Sir, you know I have made a very good proposal. With the constant years of financial crisis, with what this company is offering you will be able to pay those debts and you’ll still have something for yourself. Now think about it, let’s be wise” I smirk at him. There’s something about wearing a corporate fit and having to stand up with files in your hand speaking in front of millionaires that had me thinking I was made for this, or rather, I could attain anything I wanted. “I don’t think we have a deal,” El Viom’s assistant said as they stood up and left the room.
