Osiris POV-
I kissed her. I can’t believe I kissed her. Why did I kiss her? Why did it feel so good? Why did I say, “Have a good day?”
“You said have a good day, like a moron.” Laughs Andrew at my expense.
“I know what I said” I snapped back.
“All seriousness, big bro, why did you kiss her?”
“I have no idea, Evander. It just felt right. Can we get out of her driveway?”
The three of us walked back to the courtyard and sat on one of the picnic tables. Andrew and Evander on one bench of the table me on the other. Those two are facing me, leaning forward with their elbows on the table and their heads propped up on their hands.
It's late, or early, whichever you want to call it. The moon is just a sliver of a moon tonight. The sky is dark and clear, you can see the stars for miles.
There are a few porch lights on and the footpath is illuminated, but other than that, we are out here in the dark, just the three of us.
I sigh loudly, take a deep breath and exhale again. I’m going to tell them what I think we should do about our Luna situation.
“Andrew, Evander, I think we should pick a Luna. I think the sooner, the better. I’m so tired of all these she-wolves hanging around the packhouse, throwing themselves at us. I think we need to look for a she-wolf that isn’t hanging around all the time.”
“I agree”
“Me too”
“I think we should decide on what we can and cannot live with or without in a mate. I know we three have different ideals of what we think a Luna should be and do. I also know that we can agree on quite a few things too. Maybe it’s time we put it together.”
I see both Andrew and Evander nod in unison.
“Truthfully, I’m tired. I think dad is being unreasonable, but right now it’s still his pack. I think the three of us could lead just fine. I think the whole Alphas and packs need a Luna to be the strongest they can be, is of the same backwards thinking and traditions as everyone of rank living in the same packhouse. I’m also trying to wrap my head around how a contract Luna will make us and the pack the strongest it can be. A contract Luna is not chosen for us by the Moon Goddess. She can’t be our other half; she can’t be what we need her to be if she’s a contract Luna.”
“That’s an interesting way of looking at it. Truth be told, you might be right. There are three of us, we are three of the same but slightly different. We are one, we’re triplets. I know we’ve all had girlfriends; we’ve liked each other’s girlfriends. But our Luna is OUR Luna, she must be right for all three of us. If she’s not, we won’t be happy, we won’t be strong, and neither will the pack.”
“Osiris, Evander, have either of you said any of this dad?” asked Andrew.
“No.”
“Nope. No way. What are your thoughts baby-ist of us brothers?”
“You’re not going to like it…”
“C’mon Andrew, spill it.” I say, prodding.
“I’m telling you, you’re not going to like it. Well, after the most recent events of tonight, maybe you will, Osiris. If we must have a contract Luna, I want Alsie.”
Both Evander and I start laughing. Full on grabbing our sides and laughing.
“Alsie?? Andrew, are you crazy?” asks Evander between laughs.
“No, no I’m not. You’re laughing a little too hard and a little too loud, Evander.
Facts 1st, then the other stuff.
Fact 1- She knows us, she grew up with us.
Fact 2- She doesn’t take our s**t; she never has, and she doesn’t let us get away with anything either.
Fact 3- She doesn’t do and has never done that whole “Aww Alphas” fakeness that I hate.
Fact 4- Alsie’s dad was our dad’s Beta until William died. She’s of ranked blood, she knows pack politics. She hates it, but she knows it.
Fact 5- this one is the most important…she’s f*****g beautiful!”
“She won’t be a trophy Luna, Andrew.”
“I know that Evander, I would never ask her to be.”
“Wait, you would never ask her to be? You’ve thought of this before. This is a thought-out thought in your head?”
“C’mon Osiris, I’m not just some meathead pack warrior. Yes, I’ve thought this out. I’ve been thinking about it for like 6 years. When we didn’t find our mate on our 18th birthday. I thought maybe it was her, but we didn’t know because she’s half human and doesn’t have a wolf. I don’t know how hybrids work, I don’t know what’s wolf and what isn’t. I did a little research and sometimes hybrids get their wolf later in life, mid to late twenties. Sometimes they never get their full wolf, but they have wolf abilities and tendencies. Even if they don’t get their full wolf, they will always have some wolf. It just may not be enough to feel the full effects of the mate bond, and they won’t be able to shift. But they're not completely wolf-less.”
“Stop it. You did research. Like, Googled stuff, read it, applied to your life. Real research?” I looked over at Evander and the look on his face was what I felt mine looked like. Jaw dropped, eyes wide, dumbstruck.
“Yeah, can you two please take me seriously for a minute?”
“Sure, Andrew, it’s just this isn’t what we expect from you. Usually you’re the one making jokes, living life like you don’t have a care in the world. This moment is taking us by surprise.”
“I understand that. The look on your guy’s face is priceless.”
“You said facts first, then other stuff. What’s the other stuff?”
“The other stuff… I think she’s our actual mate, like a fated mate. I think I’ve known for a while, and I think she knows it too.”
