Aloe's POV
The knock on my apartment door came at 7 AM on a Thursday morning, soft but insistent. I'd been on bed rest for five days, living on Maria's kindness and Mrs. Henderson's occasional check-ins, when the sound made my heart race with the familiar panic of being found.
"Sarah? It's Dr. Chen. I've come to help."
Dr. Chen. The voice froze my blood, but it wasn't Wakes's Dr. Chen, this was a woman's voice, professional and reassuring.
I struggled to sit up, my movements careful to avoid triggering another episode of cramping. "Who are you?"
"Dr. Linda Chen from the Denver Women's Health Collective. I received a call about your situation from someone who cares about your welfare. May I come in? I have information that could help protect both you and your baby."
