Blake’s POV The rain thickened fast, each drop slapping against the roof of the car like a warning we couldn’t ignore. By the time Aloe and I scrambled back inside, my shirt clung to my skin, heavy and cold. She sat hunched in the passenger seat, arms wrapped around herself, teeth knocking together so hard I could hear it even over the downpour. I reached across, pulled my jacket from the backseat, and draped it over her shoulders. She tried to tug it close, but her hands were trembling too badly to grip the zipper. I helped her, sliding it up to her chin. Even then, her shivers didn’t ease. I leaned closer. “You alright?” She shook her head, lips pale. “It’s too cold, Blake.
