THE COP
0755 hours—The Last Day: Police Officer Bobby Moylan filed out of District 4 with the rest of the second platoon but skipped the normal socializing outside the command. Instead, he motioned for Steve Bryant to follow him directly to the uptown Lexington Avenue platform. Bryant was a rookie with less than a year on the job, and this would be the first and last time they would work together. Bobby and his partner stood in the center of the island platform ready to move in either direction. The 4- and 5-trains on the express track as well as the 6-train on the local track all stopped at Grand Central. After all the years Bobby still marveled at the mass of rush hour commuters who stood leisurely on the yellow tactile warning strip, literally inches away from arriving train
