Uniformed patrol was the best therapy he had, but Bobby desperately needed another source of pain relief. He discovered that source in a very unlikely manner. The Bedford Avenue station was not his nearest subway access. In fact, the L train at Bedford Avenue was over nine blocks away from his Havemeyer Street apartment. The long walk, however, was well worth the convenience of the L train. Upon boarding at Bedford Avenue, the train travelled directly into Manhattan and stopped at First and Third Avenues, before arriving at Union Square and District 4. The train ride was no more than ten minutes.
