The woman who Disappeared

The message remained on Daniel's phone. Three words. Your mother lives. For years, Daniel had accepted that his mother was gone. He had grown up with questions he never asked because he believed there were no answers. Now, suddenly... There was a possibility. A chance. A person. --- Amina watched Daniel carefully. "What are you thinking?" He didn't answer immediately. "I don't know." That was the truth. Daniel Okello, the man who controlled billion-dollar decisions, the man who never showed fear... Was afraid of meeting his own mother. "What if she doesn't want to see me?" Amina looked surprised. "Daniel." "What if she left because she wanted to?" Amina shook her head. "After everything we've discovered, do you really believe that?" He looked at her. "No." "Then don't let fear answer questions that only the truth can answer." --- Grace traced the location from the message. "It leads to an old research facility outside the city." Daniel frowned. "Research facility?" Grace nodded. "Registered under a private company that no longer exists." Michael looked through the records. "Who owned it?" He stopped. Everyone noticed. "What?" Michael looked up. "The owner was Isabella Okello." --- They prepared to leave immediately. But before they could, Grandma Eleanor stopped Daniel. "You need to know something." Daniel turned. "What?" "Your mother did not disappear because she abandoned you." "She disappeared because she was protecting you." Daniel looked at her. "From who?" Eleanor hesitated. "The Phoenix Alliance." --- The old facility was hidden away from the city. When Daniel entered, he felt something strange. Like he had been there before. Like some part of him remembered. The walls were covered with old research notes. Photographs. Documents. Then he saw it. A picture of himself as a baby. His mother holding him. Daniel stopped. Amina stood beside him. "Daniel..." He touched the photograph. "I don't remember this." "Because you were too young." --- A sound came from the hallway. Everyone turned. A woman stood there. Older. Tired. But with familiar eyes. Daniel couldn't move. The woman covered her mouth. "Daniel?" His entire world stopped. The voice. The face. The name. His mother. "Mom?" --- Isabella walked toward him slowly. For a moment, neither of them knew what to do. Twenty years of questions stood between them. Then Isabella touched his face. "You became so much like your father." Daniel's eyes filled with emotion. "Why didn't you come back?" The question came out with years of pain behind it. Isabella looked down. "Because every time I tried..." She paused. "They found me." --- Inside the facility, Isabella finally revealed the truth. She had spent years gathering evidence against the Phoenix Alliance. She had discovered their plans long before anyone else. "I knew Richard was only a businessman working for them." "I knew Anthony wanted power." "But the person leading everything..." She looked at Daniel. "...was someone much closer." Daniel became serious. "Who?" Isabella looked at Amina. Then at everyone. "The founder of the Phoenix Alliance." Silence. "Who is it?" Daniel asked. Isabella answered: "The person who created the entire system." She placed an old file on the table. On the cover was a name. Everyone froze. Because it was a name they knew. A name that had been beside them from the beginning. Eleanor Okello. --- Daniel looked at his grandmother's name. Again. Another betrayal. Another impossible truth. Isabella reached for his hand. "Daniel, listen to me." "Your grandmother is not the enemy you think she is." "Then why is her name everywhere?" Isabella looked at him sadly. "Because she built it." "But she didn't build it for what it became." --- Before Daniel could ask more, the lights went off. The facility went dark. Amina grabbed Daniel's hand. Someone had found them. A voice echoed from the entrance. "You were always too curious, Daniel." Everyone turned. A figure stepped into the room. And Daniel recognized the voice immediately. Anthony. But he wasn't alone. Behind him stood the person nobody expected. The person who had been controlling the entire game. The person who knew every secret. Every weakness. Every move. Eleanor Okello.
