The words hung in the air.
"Daniel's own father."
For a moment, Daniel forgot how to breathe.
The man he had spent years trying to understand...
The man whose company he had fought to protect...
Could he really have been part of the secret?
"No."
Daniel's voice was quiet.
Not angry.
Not defensive.
Just broken.
"My father would never do that."
Samuel looked at him with sadness.
"I know what it sounds like."
"Then explain."
Samuel looked around the abandoned warehouse.
"Because once I start, there is no going back."
Amina stepped closer.
"We've already lost too much to live with lies."
Samuel nodded.
"Then you deserve the whole truth."
---
Ten years earlier...
Samuel had been the chief accountant working between several companies.
He had discovered something strange.
Money was moving between Richard Kato's businesses, the factory project, and several hidden accounts.
At first, he thought it was normal business.
Until he found the missing reports.
"The factory equipment was unsafe," Samuel explained.
"The managers knew."
Daniel's eyes narrowed.
"Who knew?"
"Richard."
"Some board members."
"And..."
Samuel paused.
"Your father."
The silence returned.
Daniel looked away.
"My father knew?"
Samuel nodded.
"But knowing about a problem is not the same as causing it."
"He wanted to expose everyone involved."
Amina looked at him.
"Then why did he hide it?"
Samuel sighed.
"Because your father was caught in the middle."
---
Samuel continued.
"Daniel's father and your father were not enemies."
"They were working together."
Amina stared.
"My father worked with Mr. Okello?"
"Yes."
"They planned to reveal Richard's corruption."
Daniel looked confused.
"Then what happened?"
Samuel's expression became painful.
"Someone found out."
"Someone close to both families."
"Someone who had access to everything."
Grace looked at him.
"Lydia."
Samuel nodded.
"Lydia discovered the plan."
"And she told Richard."
---
Daniel stepped back.
"But you said my father gave the final order."
Samuel looked uncomfortable.
"I said someone made it look like he did."
"What does that mean?"
Samuel reached into his coat and pulled out a small old recorder.
"I saved this."
Daniel stared.
"What is it?"
"Your father's final conversation."
Amina covered her mouth.
"My father?"
Samuel nodded.
"The night before the accident."
---
He pressed play.
A man's voice filled the warehouse.
A voice older but unmistakably Daniel's father.
"I won't allow innocent people to suffer because of our mistakes."
Another voice answered.
Richard.
"You don't understand what you're risking."
Daniel froze.
His father continued:
"If exposing the truth costs me everything, so be it."
The recording ended.
Nobody spoke.
---
Daniel closed his eyes.
His father had not been the villain.
He had been trying to fix a disaster created by others.
But one question remained.
"If my father was innocent..."
"Why did everyone believe he was guilty?"
Samuel looked at him.
"Because someone destroyed the evidence."
"Someone changed the story."
"Someone made two families spend ten years blaming the wrong people."
Amina looked at Daniel.
"Who?"
Samuel took a deep breath.
"The person who benefited most from the chaos."
---
Suddenly, the warehouse lights went out.
Everyone froze.
A sound came from outside.
Footsteps.
Grace whispered:
"Someone followed us."
Daniel immediately moved in front of Amina.
The doors opened.
A figure entered.
Slowly.
Calmly.
Clapping.
Everyone turned.
The person smiled.
"Congratulations."
"You finally found the truth."
Amina's eyes widened.
She knew that voice.
Daniel's expression changed.
"No..."
The person stepped into the light.
It was someone they trusted.
Someone they never suspected.
Someone who had been close to the entire story from the beginning.
Peter Hassan.
Amina's uncle.
---
Peter looked at them sadly.
"I hoped you would stop searching."
Amina stared at him.
"Why?"
"Why would you hide the truth?"
Peter looked at her.
"Because the truth doesn't just destroy enemies."
"It destroys families."
Daniel stepped forward.
"You knew everything."
Peter nodded.
"Yes."
"Then tell us."
Peter looked at the recorder in Samuel's hand.
"The recording is real."
Everyone held their breath.
"But there is one thing you don't know."
He looked at Daniel.
"Your father didn't die because Richard wanted revenge."
"He died because he was going to reveal who was truly behind everything."
Amina whispered:
"Who?"
Peter's face became full of regret.
Then he answered:
"The person who started this entire war..."
"...was someone from your own family, Daniel."
