The test of truth

The silence in the archive room was heavier than any accusation. Grace stood in the middle of the room, looking at Daniel. For years, she had been the person everyone depended on. The person who knew every schedule. Every file. Every secret. And now... Her own access code had been used to steal the one document that could change everything. "I know what this looks like," Grace said quietly. Daniel didn't answer. That hurt more than anger. Because Daniel's silence meant he was thinking. Analyzing. Trying to separate emotion from facts. Amina stepped between them. "Daniel." He looked at her. "We need to be careful." "I know." "No." Her voice softened. "We need to remember what happened before." Daniel understood immediately. They had trusted appearances before. They had believed lies. They couldn't make the same mistake again. --- Grace looked down. "If you want me to leave, I understand." Amina looked shocked. "Grace." "You have every reason to doubt me." Daniel finally spoke. "Leaving won't solve anything." Grace looked up. "Then what will?" "The truth." --- The security team reviewed the footage again. After hours of searching, they found something. A small gap. Three minutes missing from the recording. Grace studied the system. "That's not possible." "Why?" Daniel asked. "Because only someone with advanced knowledge of the system could remove that." Amina frowned. "Someone like Grace?" Grace shook her head. "No." She pointed at the screen. "Someone who knows the original security design." Daniel looked at her. "Who created it?" Grace became quiet. Then answered: "My father." --- The room froze. Daniel remembered. Grace's father. The man connected to Richard. The man who disappeared after the accident. "Your father built our security system?" Grace nodded. "Years before I worked here." Amina looked at her. "Why didn't you tell us?" Grace's eyes filled with regret. "Because I was afraid you would think I was part of this." Daniel studied her. "Are you?" Grace looked directly at him. "No." "I lost my family because of Richard Kato." "I joined this company because I wanted to find the truth." --- Meanwhile, Anthony watched the chaos from his office. His assistant smiled. "They're starting to turn against each other." Anthony looked at the city. "Good." "Trust is the strongest weapon." "When people stop trusting each other, they destroy themselves." His phone rang. He answered. A familiar voice spoke. "You promised me this would end quickly." Anthony frowned. "Who is this?" The voice laughed. "You've forgotten me already?" Anthony's face changed. "That can't be." The person continued: "Everyone thinks you're the final enemy." "But you're only another piece on the board." The call ended. For the first time, Anthony looked worried. --- Back at the mansion, Daniel found Amina in the garden. She was staring at the roses. "You're thinking too much." She smiled slightly. "You know me well." He stood beside her. "Do you believe Grace?" Amina didn't answer immediately. "I believe that everyone in this story has been hurt." "That doesn't mean they are innocent." Daniel nodded. "You've changed." She looked at him. "How?" "When I met you, you were afraid of losing everything." "And now?" "Now you fight for the truth." Amina smiled. "Maybe because I learned from you." --- That night, Daniel received a message. No number. No name. Only a location. And a picture. The stolen will. The message read: "Come alone if you want the truth about your father." Amina saw his face. "What happened?" Daniel showed her the message. Her expression hardened. "No." Daniel looked at her. "I know." "It's a trap." "But it's also our only lead." She shook her head. "We go together." Daniel wanted to argue. But he stopped. Because he knew something now. Amina wasn't the person he needed to protect from danger. She was the person standing beside him in it. --- At midnight, Daniel and Amina arrived at the abandoned location. The place was empty. Except for one thing. A table. On it was the missing will. And beside it... A handwritten note. Daniel picked it up. The message was short. "You are looking for the person who betrayed you." Amina leaned closer. "What does it say?" Daniel turned the paper around. The final line made his blood run cold. "You already invited the traitor into your home." They looked at each other. Because now they understood. The enemy wasn't hiding outside. They were already inside the Okello mansion.
