The Evidence Against Her father

The morning after the news broke, Okello Group felt different. The usual sounds of busy employees, ringing phones, and footsteps moving through the halls were replaced by whispers. Everyone had one question. Was Amina's father involved in the accident ten years ago? Amina felt every stare as she walked through the building beside Daniel. For the first time since joining the company, she wished she could disappear. Daniel noticed. "Don't look at them." She forced a small smile. "It's hard not to." "They don't know the truth." "But they believe what they see." Daniel stopped walking. "Amina." She looked at him. "I believe you." The simple sentence meant more than she expected. --- Inside the executive meeting room, the board members were already waiting. One director placed a newspaper on the table. "This situation is becoming dangerous." Daniel looked at him coldly. "Dangerous because someone is spreading lies?" "Dangerous because investors are worried." Another director spoke. "The connection between Amina's father and Richard Kato must be investigated." Amina sat quietly. She understood their concern. But hearing her father's name connected to something terrible still hurt. Daniel stood. "An investigation will happen." The directors nodded. "But until then," Daniel continued, "no one will accuse an innocent person without proof." His eyes moved around the room. "That includes my fiancée." --- After the meeting, Amina returned to her office. A file was waiting on her desk. No name. No message. Only a thick brown envelope. Her hands froze. She knew exactly who it was from. Slowly, she opened it. Inside were old photographs. Her father. Richard Kato. And several business meetings. Then she found a document. A financial transfer. Her father's company had received money shortly before the factory accident. Amina's heart sank. "No..." She dropped the paper. "This can't be true." --- Daniel found her moments later. She was sitting silently. "Amina?" She quickly wiped her eyes. "I'm fine." He looked at the documents on the desk. "What happened?" She pushed the file toward him. "Someone wants me to believe my father was guilty." Daniel studied the papers carefully. "These could be fake." "But what if they're not?" He looked at her. "Amina." "What if I spent my whole life believing my father was a good man, and he wasn't?" Daniel sat beside her. "You don't judge someone's entire life based on one piece of evidence." "But what if the evidence is real?" "Then we find out why." She looked at him. "Even if it hurts your company?" Daniel answered without hesitation. "Yes." "Even if it hurts me?" He nodded. "Yes." Amina stared at him. Because that was the difference between Daniel and everyone else. He wanted the truth. Even if the truth destroyed him. --- That evening, Daniel and Grace reviewed the documents. Grace frowned. "Something is wrong." "What?" "The dates." Daniel looked closer. The financial transfer had been dated two days before the accident. But according to company records... Amina's father had already withdrawn from the project three months earlier. "Someone changed the documents." Grace nodded. "Exactly." Daniel leaned back. "Richard." --- Meanwhile, Amina visited her mother's home again. Her mother looked worried when she saw her expression. "What happened?" "Mom..." She placed the documents on the table. "Did Dad ever work with Richard Kato after leaving the project?" Her mother became silent. Then she whispered: "No." "Your father discovered what Richard was planning." "What was he planning?" Her mother looked toward the window. "He wanted the accident to happen." Amina froze. "What?" "He wanted the factory closed so he could buy the company assets cheaply." Amina covered her mouth. "Why didn't Dad tell anyone?" "He tried." Her mother's voice trembled. "But before he could expose Richard..." She stopped. Amina's eyes widened. "Before he could expose him, what?" Her mother looked at her sadly. "Your father disappeared." The room went completely silent. Amina had spent years believing her father's death was a tragic accident. Now she was learning something much worse. Maybe it wasn't an accident at all. --- That night, Daniel stood outside the mansion watching the city lights. Amina joined him. "I found out something about my father." He turned. "What?" She looked at him, tears in her eyes. "My father was trying to stop Richard Kato." Daniel reached for her hand. "And now Richard is trying to make the world believe your father was the villain." Amina nodded. "Why?" Daniel looked into the darkness. "Because people who hide the truth are always afraid of the person who knows it." Neither of them noticed the camera hidden across the street. A photograph was taken. Daniel holding Amina's hand. The picture was immediately sent to Richard. His response was simple. "Good. Let them become closer." "It will hurt more when they lose each other."
