The attempted crash dominated Daniel's thoughts all night.
By sunrise, he was already in his office.
On the large conference table lay photographs of the pickup truck, copies of police reports, and files from the accident ten years earlier.
Grace entered carrying another folder.
"The investigators found something."
Daniel looked up.
"What is it?"
"The security company that owns the pickup isn't just connected to the Chairman."
She placed the file in front of him.
"He owns it."
Daniel's jaw tightened.
"So he's no longer hiding."
Grace nodded.
"I think he's preparing for a final confrontation."
---
At the mansion, Amina was watering the flowers Grandma had planted months earlier.
She heard footsteps behind her.
Grandma smiled warmly.
"You've made this garden happier."
Amina laughed.
"I think it's your roses doing all the work."
Grandma shook her head.
"No."
"It's the person taking care of them."
She looked at Amina thoughtfully.
"Tell me something."
"What is it, Grandma?"
"Do you love my grandson?"
Amina nearly dropped the watering can.
"I..."
Her cheeks turned pink.
"It's complicated."
Grandma chuckled.
"Love always is."
Before Amina could answer, Daniel walked into the garden.
"We need to leave."
His serious expression made both women uneasy.
---
Back at Okello Group, Daniel gathered the senior executives.
The Chairman sat at the far end of the boardroom, looking calm as ever.
"Good morning, everyone," he said with a pleasant smile.
Daniel looked directly at him.
"We need to discuss the attack on my vehicle."
The room fell silent.
The Chairman folded his hands.
"How unfortunate."
"It was more than unfortunate."
Daniel slid a photograph across the table.
The Chairman glanced at it.
It showed the pickup truck.
"This vehicle belongs to your security company."
Several directors exchanged worried looks.
The Chairman smiled politely.
"My company owns hundreds of vehicles."
"I can't possibly know where every driver goes."
Daniel didn't respond.
Instead, he placed another document on the table.
A maintenance log.
One signature was highlighted.
The Chairman's.
For the first time, the smile disappeared from the older man's face.
---
After the meeting, the Chairman stopped Daniel in the hallway.
"We should talk privately."
Daniel nodded.
"My office."
The door closed behind them.
"You've become reckless," the Chairman said.
"No."
"I'm tired of being silent."
The Chairman walked to the window overlooking Kampala.
"You still think this is about the factory."
"Isn't it?"
The older man laughed quietly.
"You really don't know."
Daniel frowned.
"Know what?"
The Chairman turned slowly.
"The person who convinced the board not to shut down the factory..."
"...wasn't me."
Daniel's eyes narrowed.
"Then who was it?"
Before the Chairman could answer, a loud knock echoed through the office.
Grace rushed in, out of breath.
"Sir!"
"What happened?"
"The police have arrested Vanessa."
Daniel looked surprised.
"So quickly?"
Grace nodded.
"But before they took her away..."
"She insisted on speaking to Amina."
---
At the Central Police Station, Amina sat across from Vanessa in a small interview room.
A police officer stood outside the door.
Vanessa looked tired.
For the first time, the confident woman Amina knew was gone.
"You wanted to see me?" Amina asked.
Vanessa nodded slowly.
"Yes."
"Why?"
Vanessa looked down at her hands.
"Because I owe you the truth."
Amina remained silent.
Vanessa took a deep breath.
"I hated you because I thought you stole Daniel from me."
She looked up, tears filling her eyes.
"But I was wrong."
"What do you mean?"
"I was never really fighting you."
"Then who?"
Vanessa whispered three words that made Amina's heart stop.
"My own father."
Outside the interview room, Daniel arrived just in time to hear the last sentence.
He froze.
The Chairman...
...was Vanessa's father.
And suddenly, every piece of the puzzle began to fall into place.
