The power exploded out of Alex without warning.
He was in the command center, reviewing intelligence with Sebastian, when the darkness surged. A wave of energy ripped through the room, shattering screens and throwing furniture against the walls.
Sebastian was thrown backward, crashing into a terminal. He crumpled to the ground, unmoving.
"Sebastian!" Alex rushed to his side. The older man's face was pale, his breathing shallow. A deep gash on his forehead was bleeding freely.
The darkness was still surging. Alex could feel it, twisting inside him like a living thing.
Elena burst through the door. "What happened?"
"I don't know," Alex said, his voice strained. "The power... it just exploded out of me."
