Chapter 5

Gabriel stood in the parking lot and watched Anne speed off. He could tell she was pissed. He couldn't blame her, he overstepped by his question, but he needed to know what she believed. Now, he knew he had to work quickly to make her believe he was an angel. Lucifer never slept. If he came to Earth in his human form, he could convince her he is a good guy, and there would be nothing Gabriel could do to stop him because Lucifer held Uriel's sword as a threat. Uriel's sword was the only sword that held the power to kill angels. Gabriel was not sure if Lucifer actually understood the power he possessed, but he decided it was smart not to take any chances. Gabriel walked quickly, passing round tables crowded with students studying or eating lunch. Once he entered the wooded area behind the school, he made sure to walk far enough into the trees and out of sight of human eyes.  As soon as he walked deep enough into the woods, he released his white-feathered wings that spread about 10 feet tall and 7 feet wide preparing to dart up to Heaven. As he fluttered his wings, the trees blew. Branches and leaves fell to the ground. He had to talk to Raziel immediately, even though entering Heaven's gates were f*******n. "Raziel! Raziel!" Gabriel called as soon as he landed on the soft plush clouds.  The cool dew on the bottoms of his feet made him realize how much he took Heaven's cool air for granted. Raziel walked out of the fancy golden gates that blocked off Gabriel's home he missed dearly.  "Gabriel! Mission accomplished already? That was quick, even for me!" Raziel inquired.  "Quite the opposite brother. She does not believe in God. She can see the guardian angels, and she still does not believe. This quest is impossible."  "Gabriel, if she does not believe she is probably only seeing the light angels carry but not their angelic form."  "Raziel, what am I supposed to do? We touched and our skin electrocuted from our bond, because I am an angel and well; she is God's prophet, my soul mate, and it did not phase her at all. I am not up to date on the times, and she is feared by me being so strange," Gabriel felt himself start to panic. He was about to blow every chance with Anne.  "Breathe, brother, breathe. You are aware of what you have to do, you just cannot think straight. Deep down inside, her soul is the same as it has always been. Get yourself together and do Dad's work. Forces will pull her to you no matter how she feels. Let her wonder about you, her curiosity will help her believe when you tell her you are an angel."  "You think so, brother? I do not think the truth will be easy for her to swallow. I have to find the perfect moment to tell her, but I really hope she figures everything out on her own. Maybe she will transition easier by figuring it out herself. First, I have to get a cell phone or I will stick out like a sore thumb," Gabriel rambled. He never used or even touched a phone, so he knew he would stick out either way.  Raziel laughed, "Oh come on brother, it cannot be that frivolous."  "If only you knew brother if only you knew!" Gabriel waved before departing Heaven to return to the place he dreaded the most. "Thank you. Have a great day," I said, handing a bag and receipt to a girl with brunette hair. She had a mysterious light dusty gray shadow lurking around her. The darkness made my skin prick. Usually, the people connected to the shadows were angry or just plain cruel, thankfully this girl didn't say too much for me to notice either way.  Right as she walked out the door, Gabriel walked in. The light radiating off of him completely made the shadow disappear, or at least that's what my eyes perceived. I glanced down at my watch, trying to ignore my heart rate rising.  "You are an hour early. You don't seem to be the shopping type so what brings you here so soon?" I teased trying to hide my nerves. Gabriel gave me a half crooked smile showing his pearly straight white teeth. I didn't know what it was about him that made me so nervous; I mean yes, he was easy on the eyes, but I've been around plenty of handsome looking guys who never made me want to put my heart on my sleeve. Once they would figure out what a freak I am, they would bail. So why waste my time? It had to be the radiance of Gabriel that caused me to be so jumpy, that was the only logical way to explain my feelings.  "Anne, is there anything I can help with?" Gabriel asked, interrupting my daydream.  "Umm... sure, you can walk around and make sure all the clothes are folded and hung on the hangers. Look to make sure nothing is lying around. As soon as Kait arrives here we can leave. She's usually a 15-minute early show-up, thankfully," I stammered.  "Sure," Gabriel replied and walked off to complete the tasks I requested.  I watched Gabriel struggle to put clothes on the hangers. He studied them like they were a foreign object. I walked over and showed him how to properly hang an outfit in one swift movement. He nodded and continued practicing. I sighed. This was going to be a long, distracting hour with Gabriel working beside me. I wished I had the power to fast-forward time.
