Chapter 8

"I love spending time with you," I told Gabriel two weeks later, as we walked to the parking spot of our spot, the marina.  Everything had settled down since the storm, and we were preparing for finals week. We spent time every day since Thanksgiving, and despite what Justin said, getting to know Gabriel was enjoyable.  "Same Anne. You are a breath of fresh air. I will walk you to psychology class tomorrow," Gabriel smiled, making my heart melt.  "I can't wait!" I smiled back and gave him a kiss on his cheek before getting in my car. Our relationship has accelerated quickly. We never made the title official, but we were together every day and everywhere. We even spent some nights together at my place, nothing interesting ever happened except sleep, but having someone around brought me comfort I didn't know I longed for. I waved at Gabriel before I drove off to work.  Gabriel smiled and waved as Anne drove off. Spending time with Anne meant the world to him. She was perfect in every way, the way she smiled, how her eyes closed when she laughed, and the way her face lit up in the moonlight. Gabriel always lost himself in her presence; however as much as it hurt, he understood they could not be together since he was an Angel and her soul was in human form, but he still wanted to spend as much time with her as he could before he placed her in Hell, literally.  "It is so nice to spend time with you, Gabriel." Gabriel heard a familiar mocking voice on the dock behind him. He turned around. Raziel stormed up to him. Raziel's green eyes angrily pierced Gabriel's soul.  "What are you doing here Raziel? Why are you not in Heaven?" Gabriel asked.  "Well, you have not contacted me, brother, so I decided to pay a visit to see how your quest was coming along. Clearly, it is a good thing I intervened." Raziel hissed.  "And what do you mean by that, brother?" Gabriel growled.  "You CANNOT be with her Gabriel, no matter how much you love her. IT IS NOT ALLOWED," Raziel stretched his words.  "I am not. I am busy working, gaining her trust."  "That is a lie and you know it. Are you on Lucifer's side now? You are sinning just as he does. Seriously Gabriel, are you going to put your feelings before her safety. If she dies right now, she goes to purgatory and you cannot save her this time because you've been on Earth for too long. It will be centuries, decades, millennium before she is accepted into heaven. Do I need to remind you? The rapture has begun, a flood has happened!"  "No brother, do not remind me! I will never allow anyone to hurt her. How do you know? The flood may have been a coincidence. Hurricanes often happen here!"  "Good Dad, listen to yourself! I am God's angel that is how I know! You know she has to fight Lucifer, brother. Nothing will change that." "Lucifer will eat her alive. He will wrap her around his sin."  "No brother, she is God's chosen one."  "She is a human brother. She will fall for his sin easily. She sees no difference. How are you even aware she is Dad's chosen one? Dad does not tell us, we have to guess!"  "She sees guardian angels, Gabriel. A girl that sees things, not of Earth, Dad's biggest hint, it is her."  Gabriel's vision blurred red. In Heaven, there were no emotions except joy, but on earth, all emotions were felt. Gabriel hasn't been this angry since before Christ was born.  Gabriel lost control and punched Raziel in the jaw. He watched Raziel's face fill with anger.  "Brother, accept the truth!" Raziel yelled, striking Gabriel back. Gabriel grabbed his throbbing jaw.  Gabriel and Raziel kept going punch for punch.  "That is enough!" A sweet high-pitched voice rang in the air. They stopped and looked around. A petite angel stood on the dewy grass. Her red curls flowed down her shoulders and her pixie shaped face held a frown.  "Raquel, what are you doing here?" Gabriel asked.  "Well, you two cannot put your differences aside for two minutes to come up with a solution, so here I am," Raquel bragged.  "I have it just fine Raquel," Raziel huffed, holding his hand on his b****y nose.  "Uh-huh. Disgusting," Raquel shook her head and turned to Gabriel. "What are you doing?"  "Just finished whipping Raziel's..."  "Gabriel no! With Anne! Why are you not trying to get her to understand the lights are guardian angels? You spend time with her every day, but have yet to tell her you are an angel," Raquel cut Gabriel off.  Gabriel sighed, "Raquel, I love her. You, of all people, should understand that telling her and getting her to fight Lucifer would break her."  "Oh Gabriel," Raquel put her hand on Gabriel's shoulder. "I wish you two could be together, but you have to wait for her to enter Heaven. She cannot enter heaven until her purpose is done, and this is her purpose. You are only hurting her by holding back and keeping secrets."  Gabriel's eyes watered. He knew Raquel was right, but it pained every part of him to tell Anne.  Suddenly, a horn echoed across the sky. It was a terrible piercing sound, like nails down a chalkboard. Raquel covered her ears.  "What? Wait a minute, I am supposed to blow the horn in the rapture!" Gabriel scoffed. "Is Lucifer serious? That is not how the horn sounds!"  "It does not matter Gabriel. Humans are not aware of how the horn sounds, heck they probably do not even know that the horn will blow at all. More people follow Lucifer than they follow Dad, so Lucifer becoming king is a walk in the park. The horn is our first big warning. You have to make Anne understand and quick. This will not be an overnight process to prepare her for this fight," Raziel stated.  "Please Gabriel, if we don't stop this, none of us will see our loved ones again, including Anne." Raquel pleaded.  "Understood. I will tell her," Gabriel's eyes stung with tears. The fun and games with Anne were over. He had to find a good time to tell her and fast.
