Chapter 1: Shake Off The Scumbag

Bella's POV

“So what do you think babe? It’s the only way for us to be together. He will always try to come between us. We have to do it on your birthday. I have enough money saved to get us far away from here,” Drake says, cupping my face.

“I won’t run away with you. And I don’t think we should see each other anymore.” I removed his hands and took a step back. “What do you mean, babe? We are mates, we belong together.” “No, I am betrothed to Alex, and I won’t go against the elders anymore. Please accept that and move on.” I say as I turn to walk away. He grabs my arm and tries to stop me, but I loosen his grip on me easily.

I may have been downgraded from my Alpha ranking because of this murderer, but that doesn’t mean I have lost any of my skills. “Let me go. Move on Drake, it’s for the best. I never want to see you again,” I say, but this time he grabs both my arms. “Don’t do this. We are meant to be together. Will you throw away our bond for someone who doesn't love you?”

“Yes! Now let me go.” I answer. “No, you aren't thinking clearly. Has he done something to you?” “My mind has never been clearer.” I answered, making him scowl, and tighten his grip on my wrists. I glanced to my side and saw Alpha Alex talking to Headmaster Higgins. He is looking our way, so I know he can see this exchange.

If ever I needed an assist from him, it's now. I broke loose from Drake’s grip and ran towards Alex. “Hi Alpha, I hope I am not interrupting,” I said as I reached him, and put my arm around his waist. He stiffens, and looks down at me in surprise, while I look up at him and bat my eyes innocently. “Is everything okay, Bella?” Alex asks me.

“It is now,” I answer, and smile at Headmaster Higgins, who is watching us with a secret smile. “I hope I didn't interrupt important school business,” I say when Drake approaches. “We were just discussing the next…” Headmaster Higgins says, but is cut off by Alex. “Can I help you with something?” Alex asks Drake when he stops in front of us.

“Yes Alpha, I need to have a word with Bella.” “We are busy. Run along Omega,” Alex says and glances down at me. Before, I would get upset and lash out when Alex would speak to Drake like that. So I can understand why he is weary of my reaction.

“It’s important,” Drake says, glaring at me. “It can’t be more important than what my fiancé and I have to discuss. Now excuse us please, this conversation is private,” Alex says, putting his arm around me too. Oh, it feels oddly good having his arm around me. But I don't have time to dwell on this odd feeling now.

“You heard your Alpha. Run along. No dilly-dallying in the hallway, Mr Pick. Unless you wish to stay for detention,” Headmaster Higgins says. Drake looked at me, but I just ignored him. “What were we talking about, Alpha?” I asked, looking up at Alex.

He gives Drake a look with one eyebrow raised, prompting him to turn and leave. I breathe a sigh of relief when he walks away. It may be harder to get Drake to back off than I initially thought. “I was actually about to tell you about our plans for the upcoming trials,” Headmaster Higgins says. “We can discuss that some other time,” Alex says, giving my headmaster a strange look, before he looks at me.

“Are you sure you are okay?” Alex asks me. “Yes, I am. Thank you for asking.” I say, looking at my watch. “Oh goodness, I just realized that I need to get home. I have a few things I need to take care of. Please continue your discussion. I am sorry I interrupted you.” I say, letting go of Alex and taking a step back.

“It's okay, Miss Bella, you can stay,” Headmaster Higgins says. “I really should go. I am running late. See you soon.” “I will see you at home,” Alex says, and I just smile awkwardly and wave to both of them as I walk off. That was so weird, but I am glad Alex got Drake to back off.

I need to gather my thoughts and come up with a plan. I got in the car Alex gave me, and drove back to his house. Yes, I live with my pack’s Alpha, Alex Stone. The elders moved me in with Alex when they set up the engagement. I have been staying with him for a few months now, while sneaking out to see Drake.

I am only now realizing what my action did. I was so sure Alex hated me for making his life so difficult. But as I lay dying on the floor on that fateful day, he was the only one that came to my rescue. He didn’t know what he was running into, and it didn't end well for him. He died too, thanks to Drake and that b***h. Emma… yes, she is another person I need to watch out for and expose.

The last thing I saw before I died was Alex, lying in a pool of blood, as he took his last breath. I will not allow that to happen this time. I will change the outcome. I may not have loved Alex then, but the pack needs him. I can’t allow him to die because of the bad choices I made. He doesn't deserve it. Come what may, I will make this right.
