Chapter 5

Maya's POV After signing the documents, I gripped the pen tightly until my palms began to ache as my eyes burnt with anger. This was my greatest nightmare ever and all I want is to wake up from it but it seems that wasn't going to happen. “You think you will go scot free?” I gulped down the lump which had risen in my throat. “I don't think, because I already did.” The blue-eyed man replied, still wearing his smirk. The more I stared at him, the angrier I became and at a point, my head began to make up scenarios as one of his men approached me. Just when he was about to take the document off the table, I grabbed his arm and before he or anyone could comprehend what was happening, he had his back against the floor. “I love that.” The blue-eyed man said, hitting his palms together as he laughed. “You think it's funny? By the time I'm done with you, you will have no choice but to let me go and guess what will happen after that… you will crawl on your knees while begging for mercy.” I spat in fury, my chest rising up and down in a quick succession. Reaching for the document which I had signed, I shredded it into minute pieces, tossing the pieces of paper into the air. Instead of flaring up, the grin on his lips widened and the next thing he did made my knees wobble and at once I fell onto the floor. “How come?” I muttered, biting my bottom lips as my eyes stung with hot tears. In my rage, I didn't check the document before shredding it. He was holding the original copy, fooling me with a plain paper. “I thought…” I swallowed the rest of my words when he crouched right in front of me. Apart from his menacing gaze, his aura and masculine scent threw me off balance but I dare not be a weakling before him. My father had taught me to look back in the eyes of my foes, in that way, they will know they are dealing with a formidable opponent and that was exactly what I did. “I can't wait for what you will do next. Having you by my side is definitely going to be a lot of fun and I’m already giddy with excitement.” He mouthed. Raising my hand above my head, I was about to send my palm across his face but he stopped my hand mid air. “You're no match for me, the earlier you realize that, the better.” He smirked, pushing my hand away. Rising, he pushed his hand into his pockets, his gaze still fixed on me. “Jinx, take her to her room.” He said after a while with his back turned on me. He must have decoded correctly that I was going to challenge him and so before I could do that, he began to walk away. “Crazy.” I spat out the blood lodged in my mouth, gripping my pants with both hands. Now in the room which was assigned to me, I had my hands tucked into my pockets as I moved from one end of the room to the other, my lips lodged in between my lips. “If only I didn't go to KSS bar… Ethan's betrayal and if only I got on the plane earlier, I wouldn't have been in this mess.” I groaned, tugging my hair as anger rippled through my veins. Face palming myself, I fell on the soft bed with a thud. At the moment, I was scanning my current surroundings. I needed to escape now, else I wouldn't have the opportunity to do so again. Trying to come up with the perfect escape strategy, my eyes fell on a building plan which was stamped on the wall and at once I rushed towards it. “Perfect!” I grinned, running my fingers on the building plan outline. It turns out to be that of the house, hence making my escape mission easier for me. For the next few hours that followed, I studied the plan thoroughly and when I was satisfied with the plan I had drafted in my head, I walked towards the door. “You can't leave until the boss asks you to.” A guard said, trying to block my path. “Get out this moment.” I roared. He didn't allow me to repeat my words before doing exactly as I had instructed. Even though he had submitted easily, I knew he had another plan up his sleeves and that was informing the others. “I need to hurry.” I said to myself as I began to walk briskly down the hallway. Escaping from the mansion was easy unlike how I had visualized it. Apart from the guard who I had encountered earlier, no one else accosted me. Not going to lie, this was looking like a trap. “Too bad he thinks he can make a fool out of me.” I laughed and after one last look at the mansion which was eerily quiet, I began to run through the deserted road. For more than half an hour, I kept on walking and running at intervals but the road seemed endless. It was as if I was going around in circles. Annoyed, I halted suddenly but when I remembered his men would soon be here for me, I resumed my endless walk until I couldn't take it anymore. Just when I flopped under a tree to take shelter from the scorching sun and to get my breath back, the sound of sirens from the distance caught my attention. Without thinking twice, I rose and then resumed my death race against time but it was of no use. His men had finally caught up with me and they all made a large circle around me. “I have been waiting for you guys.” I smacked my lips, my hands resting on my waist. “Come with us now, we aren't going to hurt you.” The guard from earlier said, pushing his gun into the hostler around his waist. “You can hurt me if you want but I’m not coming with you.” I spat in fury. With all the force I could muster, I charged towards the East, breaking through the barricade the guards had created. Smirking, I increased my pace as I ran blindly down the endless road. Just when I thought I was finally going to get my freedom, my eyes fell on the monster resting against a car with his legs crossed. “Hello.” He waved. “f**k!”
