Delilah’s P.O.V “I don’t just get any of this.” Delilah sighed in frustration. “Trust me, we’re on the same page.” Her brother, Damian shook his head before blowing out a breath. It had been months since the day I and Hunter had gotten divorced. True to his words, the divorce papers had arrived at their doorstep the next day. He truly wanted it done and dusted with. She had to put on a brave face and take it all in stride. She wasn’t alone though. She had a father and a brother who loved her without any bounds. They had made sure she never felt alone and were always doing all in their power to make sure she was happy. She had lost her mother at a very tender age but that didn’t make her feel any less loved than she felt now. She was going through the papers of some of the documents of their family hospital. Their family owned a renowned hospital that was well known across the city. She had made a startling discovery that came as a surprise to her. “How is this possible?” She stared at the document in her hands, unable to believe her eyes. “Best believe it sis. She works there.” Damian shook his head again. Even he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Victra Stark.” She read the words out loud. Victra was working as a doctor in the Quinn hospital as one of their pediatricians. It all came as a shock to her. “You know; I came across this name once but I never really thought that she was the one. Not until you told us her name.” Damian took the seat beside her. Their father was watching them in silence, not quite saying anything yet. He was probably also surprised by the news as well. “Well that’s some interesting news.” He finally spoke up. I pushed the papers aside, trying not to let herself panic too much. She pushed back the swell of unpleasant memories threatening to push themselves to the surface. Over the past few months, she’d tried to focus on healing as much as she could for the sake of her and her unborn child. Still, it was hard not to recount the painful memories of what had happened. Hunter had left and abandoned me without a single remorse. He didn’t care one bit about what he had done. If he cared at all, he would have at least tried to reach out to me again but he didn’t. “Do you want us to do something about it?” Her father asked, staring at her with a knowing look in his eyes. She knew very well what he meant. As much as she hated Victra for ruining her marriage, she didn’t feel it was necessary to take the woman’s job from her. At least not yet. “It’s okay, Dad. Let’s just focus on something else.” I smiled, absentmindedly rubbing my bump. I was more than six months gone and would always find myself subconsciously doing that. My father nodded his head and relaxed back in his seat. “Well, I think it’s best we focus on the opening ceremony of the hospital. It’s to occur next tomorrow if I’m correct.” I began again. Damian hummed in reply. He was also a doctor in the hospital, working as a head neurosurgeon. “Yes. All the preparations have been made and everything’s set for it. Trust you’ll make it there Lila.” He turned to me. “Of course I will. I wouldn’t miss it for anything.” I said, a small smile on my face. “Let’s just hope the baby doesn’t decide to make a surprise appearance tomorrow.” My father joked, letting out a small laugh. “Yeah, let’s hope that.” I laughed before slowly getting up from the chair. I didn’t feel like sitting among them anymore. I needed some time to myself. “You good?” Damian asked, a hint of worry in his tone. “Of course I am.” I sent him a small smile before rolling my eyes. Damian would always fuss about me no matter what the occasion was. I found it endearing how he always seemed to be worried about me and cared for me. Now however, I needed some time to myself. I made my way to my room, shutting the door behind me. The room had remained the same even after I got married. My father told me they didn’t want to change the room to something else. It had been mine and would always be mine. I sat down on the bed and closed my eyes, trying to calm down my thoughts in whatever way I possibly could. None of it was working though and soon enough, it was hard to deny the thoughts that were infiltrating my head, threatening to consume me completely. I took out my phone and began scrolling through my social media. I would always find myself checking his accounts, wondering what he was up to. It was still a habit I was finding it hard to break. He looked like he was happy and living his best life. I tried not to let it bother me and put the phone away. I was different. Things were different for me now. It was no longer the same. My phone chimed with my ringtone. I picked the phone up immediately I saw the caller id. “Hey beautiful.” The deep voice of the caller said. I couldn’t contain the happiness that filled me upon hearing his voice. “Hi Matthew.” Matthew used to work as a doctor in the hospital a few years ago. He had left the profession for something else eventually. He was doing pretty good on his own though. “Someone sounds happy.” He chuckled. “What have you been up to lately?” “Not much. Just preparing for the opening ceremony tomorrow.” I said, absentmindedly thrumming my fingers on the bed. “I’ll be coming tomorrow. I can’t wait to see you.” I could hear the smile in his voice. “I can’t wait to see you to.” I let out a small giggle. I closed my eyes, pushing all the dark thoughts to the back of my head. I would let myself enjoy this little happiness.
