Delilah P.O.V
It was finally the day of the opening ceremony. I was looking at my reflection in the mirror, taking a final glance at myself. The bump was a bit evident in the gown I wore. It was a sky blue gown that went all the way down my legs. It hugged my body ever so lightly, making allowance for my bump.
The door to my room slid open and my face immediately lit up with happiness. Matthew was leaning on my doorframe, a small smile on his face.
“Finally.” He blew out a breath, the smile still on his face.
He didn’t say anything else and immediately pulled me into a hug. I let him hug me, taking a deep inhale and relishing the scent of his signature cologne. It had been more than a week since I’d seen him. He’d been on a business trip since so we hadn’t seen each other physically in a long time.
“I missed you.” I admitted when I finally pulled away.
“You have no idea how much I missed you.” He confessed as well, a huge grin on his face.
I smiled at that, wondering how I got so lucky to meet someone like him. His curly black hair looked so soft to touch and he had eyes that sparkled like the sun. I would forever be grateful for meeting him.
“Come on. The others are waiting for us downstairs.” Matthew said to me, his hand on the small of my back.
I nodded my head and let him guide me out the door. We began making our way downstairs. True to what Matthew said, Damian and my dad were eagerly waiting for us.
“f*****g finally.” Damian rolled his eyes, a fond smile on his face.
“Oh shut up.” I retorted.
We made our way out the house and hopped into the car. Damian would be the one driving, leaving Matthew and I in the back seat. Throughout the car ride, his hand never left mine. I really appreciated the way he always seemed to dot over and be worried about me.
We eventually made it to the hospital. Matthew opened the door to the car and let me walk out. I murmured a thank you, grateful for the small act. We made her our way into the hospital. I took my time to admire how everywhere had been decorated for the special occasion.
The hall had been arranged for this specific day. It was already filled with people who were expectantly waiting for the head doctor to come address them. My dad cleared his throat and went up to the stage while we all found our table and took our seats.
“Thank you all for coming to the opening ceremony of this hospital. I truly appreciate the turn out. Here’s to more fruitful years ahead of us.”
The whole hall fell into a round of applause. What followed next was a break. I used that opportunity to walk around, greeting people when it was necessary and engaging in some small talk.
Matthew was busy talking to some people as well. Ever so often, his gaze would fall on me and he would send me a small smile. I would send him a smile in return. This continued for some time until I eventually needed a break. I really needed to use the bathroom.
Just as I was making my way there, I accidentally bumped shoulders with somebody. The drinks he had been holding fell to the floor. I quickly turned to him, about to apologize for bumping into him.
“I-
The words died down in my throat immediately. It was like all time had stopped and I was frozen in the moment. Standing before me was none other than Hunter. He looked just like he had been a few months ago.
The only difference that he was dressed in a tailor made suit for the occasion. He looked surprised to, not saying anything quite yet. His gaze fell on my stomach and his expression slowly hardened. I felt my irritation grow at the change in his expression. What the hell was that supposed to mean? None of us said anything at first, simply staring at each other. I was the first to break the silence.
“Excuse me.” I was about to leave when he side stepped, blocking me from moving.
“Delilah. It’s really you.” He still had a look of disbelief in his eyes, almost like he couldn’t quite believe I was standing before him.
“Obviously.” I stated the obvious. “Do you mind getting out of my way?”
“Could you just give me a little of you time please?” He pleaded.
It shocked me to hear him using such a pleading tone but I fought back the surprise. I would not give him the satisfaction of getting whatever he aimed at getting.
“I don’t think that’s necessary. I doubt you’d want to keep your wife waiting.” I folded my arms, glaring at him.
“I don’t have one.” He admitted, a blank look in his eyes.
That was enough to make me stop. What did he mean by that? I pushed the thought away, scanning around for Victra. I spotted her at a table, her son in her arms. The boy was looking around at the whole scene with a bit of childish wonder in his eyes.
“I don’t have time for this.” I immediately pushed past him, not giving him the chance to say anything else.
He didn’t relent though, running after me. He held onto my hand again and I spun back to look at him. I was getting tired of his antics and wanted him to be done with it already.
“Would you just listen to me Dede?” He sighed in frustration.
I slapped him across the cheek without thinking. Luckily, no one had really noticed what happened though I was getting a look of concern from one of the attendants.
“Don’t you ever call me that again.” My voice was low as I said each other. He knew I meant every bit of it.
“Go back to your family and leave me the hell alone.” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“I can’t do that.” He admitted, still holding his cheek.
“Why?” I asked, my eyes still narrowed at him.
“Victra isn’t my wife.”
