Chapter 9 Magic

1030 Words
He passed out on the cave floor. With little warning, although I wouldn't have caught him even if he had given me a warning. Magic is an art. It is the beauty of nature and natural forces. I found this out when I was young. When I sang I noticed my magic. It became entwined in my being. This allowed me after many hours of practice to master my own beautiful magic. So, that's how I knew his magic was in his body. He smelled differently than all his brothers and father so his magic must be different. It was trapped in his bones. All I did was find it and bring it to the surface. He's definitely got some type of dark magic. I can't identify the magic people use. Not just my first glance. He said his people had hex magic. From what I know of dark fey they don't just have hexes there is a wide variety of dark magic that changes to each person. Each person is different, just like each Siren. The idea of me being able to have more children brought me little to no joy. I loved this one. I wanted this one. I never knew that loving someone I had never seen before could actually be a thing. I never knew that love was this strong. I always thought I would die alone or create a child from some unwilling party's DNA. But I also pondered on never having children. It didn't matter now what I wanted as soon as I felt a heartbeat inside me, I knew that I would do everything to protect it. Girl or Boy, it didn't matter as long as they were healthy and happy. I then started the magic process to put my child in stasis. A sort of stabilizing state in which it doesn't grow or move, but also cannot be hurt. I left my fey laying on the floor in the cave as I walked out into the morning sun. I took a big breathe and started to humm. Slowing building without losing tempo. After my status spell was done, I decided I didn't want to go back in the cave. I conjured some clothes, and headed back down the mountain. Leaving the father of my child behind. I walked back to the river in which I committed more murder. I saw that all the bodies were gone. None floated to the top or the edges of the river, I couldn't see them at all. Not even the blood splatter from his brothers. But what I did see was a slight glint from some trees on the other side. The river must have been about three miles wide. So I knew it had to be some kind of weapon of sorts, probably aimed at me. I had no time to react when, POW! A shot rang out. Then in the same split second, I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. I went down on one knee, tucked and rolled into some bushes out of sight I looked at my surroundings. Testing to see how many there were. I couldn't find anything, maybe it was because of my shot wound, or maybe it was from the surprise attack. I didn't know, but what I did know is that if I became surrounded by trigger happy morons I might take more bullets and the baby get hurt in the process. I had to switch tactics. Head on fighting couldn't happen anymore. As I jammed my fingers into my right shoulder to search for the bullet, I realized that, until this moment I have behaved recklessly. I have more then one person to kill. I couldn't see far across the lake, but I could feel there footsteps on the earth. One of those people I would know everywhere, anywhere. His scent was imprinted on me probably from birth, my first mate. He stood tall and broad. He was tracking me, I didn't know much about him but I did know that he was tracking me really well. He's followed close behind me for a very long time. I knew I couldn't run. I was bleeding and the damnable bullet wouldn't come out. I was just thankful it wasn't poisoned. I couldn't go back to the cave and lead them to a helpless fey, I had to find water. The only substance on this planet that could heal and conceal me. I started looking for my escape route. I looked and I saw a small clearing of brush just left of me, it would allow me to cross the path unobstructed and dive into the water. I waited and watched for signs of movement then on a random breathe I started to inch my way near it. Slowly but with purpose. It took an agonizing minute of slow and steady crouching but I made it to that spot. I didn't even give my self a chance to stand upright I just dove sideways head first into the water. Then I felt relief. I could make it out of here unscathed after all. I sank to the bottom I good twenty feet. I then began using water to coat my lungs and limbs. Invisible. I began to sing slowly. Using the song of the siren. The old song. The one that lures men to their deaths. That is where I sat and stayed until I saw faces appear in dark clouds along the river bank. Soon, they would jump, and I would slaughter these men too. As the first splash occured I used the undertow to reach the second. I pulled them both into this massive river. I drug them to the bottoms with my currents. I began to spin the them, spin, spin, spin. I watched them fight, and writhe and gasp for air. Nothing could help them here. This was in fact my domain. My magic. My beauty. As the second one took his last breathe I looked him dead in the eyes, I smiled because this was the mate fate had planned for me and yet I felt nothing as the light left his eyes.
