CHAPTER 6

Naomi’s hands trembled slightly as she turned the card toward him. The words were elegantly scripted, but the message was anything but refined. Meet me on the rooftop alone. Or someone you love will suffer. Her stomach twisted. Damian wasn’t bluffing. He never did. Ethan took the card from her, reading it before his jaw clenched. “He’s trying to isolate you.” Damian smiled. “Such a smart man, aren’t you, Ethan? But then again, you always underestimated just how well I know Naomi.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice so only she could hear. “You and I both know you’ll come. You always do.” Naomi forced herself to remain expressionless, but inside, panic swirled. Damian always had a plan, and now, she was trapped in it. Ethan stepped protectively in front of her. “She’s not going anywhere alone.” Damian chuckled. “We’ll see about that.” Then, with a lingering glance at Naomi, he turned and disappeared into the crowd. Ethan turned to her immediately. “We’re not playing his game.” Naomi swallowed hard. “But what if he’s telling the truth? What if someone I care about”. Ethan took her face in his hands, forcing her to look at him. “I won’t let him hurt anyone. You trust me?” She searched his eyes, finding nothing but fierce determination. The war between these two men was reaching its boiling point, and she was standing in the middle of it. “I trust you,” she whispered, though her heart pounded with uncertainty. Ethan pressed a kiss to her forehead to reassure her.
