Helen's POV
I lay in Marie's arms broken and scattered by what I had seen over at Michael's place, the better part of me had wanted to stay away from the bedroom but I had chosen to see to believe what I knew was happening, I had chosen to punish myself with the image of it, the pain of it and the reality of his wickedness.
I walked towards the bedroom in disbelief of the details which my ears picked up as I approached, I could hear giggles and kissing sounds, followed by Irene's soft moans and the slow grunt of Michael's unmistakable voice, I continued to walk towards the bedroom, unable to stop myself, the reality of it all seeming so fake to my senses.
I walked to the door and stopped just shy of it as I stared into the room, the door was only slightly open and there was soft music playing within the room, Michael liked to have music playing whenever he made love, it was his thing and I had grown used to having him do it with me, he was playing our song.
I raised my hand to cup my mouth to stop me from making any noises which would surely alert them to my presence, I was looking directly at Michael, he had his mouth planted passionately on Irene's p***y as he gave her head. The pleasure-drunk secretary tossed this way and that on the bed as she enjoyed Michael's efforts. The bed sheets had been strewn all over and the room was littered with the various articles of clothing that they had no doubt torn off each other, my attention had been caught especially by a red thong hanging from one of the bed posts.
I took a step back as I felt my balance waver, I felt dizziness creeping slowly over my body. I felt like I would just shut down and pass out, it was a strange feeling, one I had never felt before and one I had no idea how to navigate. The tears had come pouring and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't stop them, they clouded my vision as I furiously wiped at them with the back of my hands, raw pain had its clutch on my heart and I wouldn't stick around for any more of this.
I backed up very slowly till I could turn around without being heard, I was thankful for the fact that there was music playing within the room and also for the fact that I had come here while barefoot, they would have noticed me in a different case, something I wasn't sure how I'd handle if it happened. I made my way towards the living room and out the front door, the scalding image of Irene's thong on my fiancé's bedpost drawing more tears from my eyes. I took care to lock the door as I exited the building and made my way back to the car, I needed to get home and cry my eyes out, I needed to see Marie, I needed to be anywhere but here.
I climbed into my vehicle and started the engine, pushing my bare foot down on the accelerator as I did, the car sped away from the building, from Michael and Irene.
An hour later, I was in Marie's arms, crying and lamenting the cruelty of what happened to me, what hurt more being the fact that Marie had tried her best to play the role of a good friend and warn me but I had doubted the genuineness of her accusations at Michael, I had even started considering that she might have had her eye on Michael, an ignorantly foolish decision.
Deep within me, I remained glad that she had pushed on and saved me from entangling myself in a future with the beast with whom I had shared a bed before this moment.
"I'm sorry Marie", I cried, trying to apologise for not giving her the listening ear that she deserved when she had finally opened up to me after much persuasion, I had chosen the bastard over her and that wasn't right by any means.
She didn't say anything, I just felt her tears drop onto my skin as she held onto me, I snuggled deeper into her embrace, lucky to find myself in the company of such a caring person as she was, I would get through this as long as she was there to support me, I didn't want to involve my parents in this until I was strong enough to tell them what had happened, they knew Michael, almost everyone that knew me had grown aware that he was a quite significant part of my life and had accorded him that respect, he had chosen to take full advantage of my trust.
I had barely finished entertaining the thought when my phone began to ring, the name Michael was displayed boldly across the screen as the phone vibrated in its place on the sofa. I hadn't figured out what to do with it when Marie snatched it off the sofa and ended the call, I watched as she opened the phone and blocked him on all of my socials and placed a call ban on his number before deleting it from my phone, she practically made it impossible for him to reach me.
I snuggled myself back into her arms as I let her do what she felt like, I trusted her fully and I would take her advice until such a time came that I had healed from the heartbreak that Michael had caused me although it didn't look like it would be over soon as the pain I still felt within me cut so deep that it shook the very core of my heart, I had been shattered by the man whom I had trusted with all my heart in the most humiliating manner.
"What are we going to do Marie?", I asked in her embrace, I had cried until the tears had stopped coming, my make-up was a mess and I had stained my shirt as well as Marie's with it, I was sure she didn't mind, she was too concerned about my plight to be worried about makeup stains.
" I don't know 'Len", she replied in a tired voice, she had been crying with me, we had cried so long that the both of us had grown exhausted and we were currently just sitting there, waiting for the pain to pass, it never did.
"Do I need to call the office for you?", she asked as she held my head tenderly, staring down at me as she spoke, I had forgotten that I had other responsibilities aside from laying here in Marie's lap feeling sorry for myself and yielding to the pains of a broken heart.
" I hadn't even thought of that", I responded flatly, I was drained by my mood and there was little I could say at this point or do to make myself feel better, I had exhausted all my options and so I had resigned myself to the pain and anguish, and it did hit me, wave after wave of it. The tears had returned and I felt Marie's arms pulling me closer, we both knew that this was going to leave a mark, a near indelible one.
Marie adjusted and carried me onto a pillow on the sofa before she got up, she reached for my phone as she walked toward the kitchen, I was so weak that I couldn't even look at the direction she had gone, I could only tell by the sound of her footsteps and the dial tones from my phone as she dialled a number, she was no doubt calling the office to let them know that I wouldn't be coming around for the rest of the day.
She stepped into the kitchen and closed the door behind her as the line trilled, I could hear the murmur of her voice from the other side of the door but I couldn't make out anything she said, so I waited for her to return and hold me just as she had done before needing to make the call, I couldn't shoulder this on my own, I needed her more than I realised.
It didn't take long for her to finish the phone call and walk back into the living room, she set the phone down on a stool and plopped down on the sofa beside me.
"We need to think of something 'Len, did he see you?", Marie asked as she looked at me, concerned at my state, I knew she was beginning to think about calling my parents, I honestly didn't want to bother them or cause a scene, they would confront Michael about this and it most certainly wouldn't end well, I knew it for sure.
"I didn't let him", I responded casting my thoughts back to everything that had unfolded in Michael's house, the walk to his bedroom door, the moans, the sight of him pleasuring Irene while she lay naked and arching on his bed, the red thong on his bedpost, it was all too much pain to process.
I shifted my gaze from one part of the living room to the other, we'd had s*x more than a couple of times here and as I stared at the various property which filled the room, everything seemed to remind me of him, I still had more than a few of his clothes in my closet for whenever he slept over, he had gifted me quite a couple of things and they were still here, I had even spotted a few of them as I looked through my stuff, I needed to put him behind me but I knew better than anyone else that it would be far from easy, he had been the only man that had ever truly gotten into my heart and with his entrance, he had brought great pain.
" Hey 'Len", Marie called, she knew I was getting lost in my thoughts again and she was making efforts not to let me, Marie knew much more than anyone how fragile I was and I could see it in her eyes that I could trust her to stand by me in the days that followed.
" Don't tell my mom and dad", I instructed as I turned to Marie, she looked disappointed as I looked at her, my suspicions had been right, it seemed she had intended to call them behind my back, her hands were surely tied now.
She drew closer to me and scooped me up into her arms once more, I was disoriented, heartbroken and angry, I needed all the comfort I could get.
