Chapter 25 Our little group of Helen, Ada and some others departed for the Eastern Exchange Hotel where there would be music and dancing. Inside the hotel, ablaze with lights, the band was playing to a crowded floor. We succeeded in finding a table and settled down to watch the dancers and enjoy a few drinks. To our left sat a few attractive girls described as dancing partners. I was rather intrigued by the tactics of the hard-faced major-domo ordering the girls to approach the various tables where they could entice some young men to dance with them and order up champagne. Beside us was a table where sat the solitary figure of a young man whose friends were on the dance floor. At this point one of hostesses was ordered to come up to him. I watched with amazement the complete shamelessness
