***Gavin****
Dustin was nervous. I mean, I guess I get it. I couldn’t wait to meet my flame. Maybe if I had saved myself for her, I wouldn’t be in this situation.
Once in front of the house, Dustin grabbed the bottle of wine and flowers.
“Ready?” I asked, giving him a reassuring smile.
“I just can’t help but want to be near her.”
“Well, let’s get you near her.”
Dustin was so nervous that I had to knock on the door. Which is weird for Kappi to feel nervous. It didn’t take long before the most beautiful creature opened the door. She was tall and lean with long blonde hair and perfect pouty lips.
The moment I saw her, I knew she was mine. I didn’t know what else to do but smile and say, “Hi.”
“Hi. Come on in.” She said, stepping to the side and blushing a little.
I wanted to say more but before I had a chance, Everly came into the room and Dustin took a step towards her.
***Dustin***
“These are for you.” He said, holding the flowers and wine.
“Thank you. That is so thoughtful.” She said, handing the flowers to her daughter and taking the wine.
“Please come in. Dinner is almost ready. Would you like a glass of wine?” She asked.
“That would be nice.”
We walked into the kitchen that opened up to the dining room. The boy from the restaurant was sitting at the island eating some bread.
“Dustin, this is my son Brayden and this young lady putting the flowers in the water is my daughter Kennedy.”
“Nice to meet you both. This is Gavin. He’s a friend's son. I will be watching over for awhile.”
“Gavin, how old are you?” My flame asked.
“I just turned 18.”
“Oh, so have you already graduated?”
“No, this will be my senior year.”
“This is Kennedy’s senior year also,” Everly added.
Gavin turned toward Kennedy. Her checks had a light blush on them.
“Are you excited about your senior year?” Gavin asked, giving her his full attention.
“Yeah I guess. I’ve been taking college classes, so I will only be at high school for a few classes. But I am not looking forward to school starting again.”
“So beauty and brains.”
I couldn’t help but smile as Kennedy’s face turned bright red.
“Let’s eat shall we?” Everly said, breaking the awkwardness.
She made lasagna and twice baked potato, homemade garlic bread and salad with homemade dressing. It had to be the best meal I had ever eaten.
“This is amazing.” I mumbled, taking seconds. The amount of food she made could feed a small army though.
“Thank you.” Eve replied, blushing.
“How old are you?” Brayden asked.
“Brayden!” Everly shrieked.
“It’s fine Everly. I’m 43.”
I watched as he nodded his head as if he was approving.
“What are your intentions with my mother?” Brayden asks, taking another bite of his food.
The tension in the room became thick.
“Brayden!”
“What Mom? I see how he looks at you? I can still tell this stuff even if I'm only 15.”
“Enough! Dustin, I am so sorry.”
“No need to be sorry. He is the man of the house looking after his Mother. I can appreciate his desire to protect you.” I said, smiling at my flame and turning my attention back to Brayden.
“Brayden, I like your mother and I have no intention of hurting her. But I would really like to get to know her.”
“What do you think will happen when you go back to Colorado?”
He was a very observant young man and I had no intentions of lying to him.
“For right now, I am just getting to know your mother and when it’s time for me to go back home, the two of us will figure it out.”
Everly’s face was red and I could tell she was becoming uncomfortable. I hadn’t even had a chance to tell her how I felt and I had just declared it before her family. Or at least that was what it felt like. Only a few hours after meeting her. If she was Kappi, we would already be back in my realm, but humans are different when it comes to soulmates.
“Who wants desert?” She asked, jumping up.
“I do!” Gavin said excitedly.
I could only give him a confused look. He had three plates full and was still hungry. I couldn't understand where he was putting that food.
“What? Her cooking is the best I’ve ever had.” He said with a shrug.
She came back with a chocolate cake. It had a very thin icing and it was like nothing I had tasted before. It was amazing and I couldn’t get enough.
“I’m going for a run.” Brayden stood up, taking his plate to the kitchen and putting it in the dishwasher. “Do you want me to put away dinner mom?”
“No honey. Enjoy your run.”
With that, he left the room.
“Kennedy, would you like to go for a walk? It looks like you have a huge place.”
“That is a great idea. We have 20 acres. Why don’t you take him to the pond?” Everly encouraged.
“Don’t you need help cleaning up?” Kennedy asked.
“No you go, I got it.” Everly said, smiling.
I could see she was hesitating to leave.
“Don’t worry, I can help your mom.”
She smiled and nodded. Looking at Gavin, she said, “Are you coming?”
