Chapter 28

959 Words
I was not OK with everything that was happening. I was only eighteen. I was not trying to mate or be a f*****g Angel or Phoenix or whatever you call them when you're a half breed. Which I honestly still don’t think is real. I know I saw it happen but none of this makes sense. “Kennedy!” Gavin came running up behind me. “Look Gavin. I like you. A lot, but I’m only eighteen and all this mate stuff and angels and phoenix stuff is all a little much. I want to go to college and find out what makes me happy. I don’t want to play house before I even graduate.” “I’m not asking you to play house. Just give us a chance.” “Gavin, I can’t do this right now. You are asking me to make a choice that we both know will impact my life forever.” “I know but I love you.” He pleaded with me. “Gavin, you are the only man I’ve ever kissed or dated and I know I really like you, but I don’t even know myself.” “But.” “No! Tell me, Gavin, how many girls have you kissed?” “That doesn’t matter.” “Doesn’t it? You’ve known your entire life there was..what did you call it? Oh your flame, but you kissed other women, right?” “Yeah.” He mumbled. “Why?” He didn’t answer. I didn’t need him to answer. I knew the answer. “Because you were curious. Because you wanted to experiment. Or maybe you didn’t want fate or whatever to tell you what to do.” Again he was silent. “Maybe if I was older it would be different. I mean I get my Mom. She wasn’t in a great marriage but she chose to love my Dad. She also chose to fall in love with Dustin but she knows herself and what she wants.” “So that’s it? Are we done?” He asked. “I’m sorry. Right now I just need to process everything. What if you thought your entire life that only Kappi existed and then you find out there are all sorts of other beings and you are one of the other ones?” “I get how it can be overwhelming.” “Overwhelming?” I couldn’t hold back the chuckle that escaped my lips. I turned and walked back towards the house. Once inside, I went right to my room and crawled into bed. My brain could not process anything else tonight. **Gavin** What the hell just happened? This is not how I thought things would go for us. I thought she would take us be supernatural better than Eve and Brayden, but I was wrong. She just walked away. I followed her to the house and watched as she went to her room. “How did the talk go?” Dustin asked. “Not good.” “Oh honey, give her time.” Eve said, trying to make me feel better. “I don’t think that will help.” I felt defeated. “This is a lot and I don't even know how to process everything. Give her a few days and I am sure she will be more open-minded.” Eve tried again to assure me. “Yeah maybe.” “It’s going to take a hell of a lot longer for me. This is f*****g crazy. How is everybody so calm right now?” Kora jumped in. “What do you expect me to do?” Eve asked her friend. “I don’t know....run, yell, scream. Your son was legit on fire. ON FIRE!” “Do you think any of that will help?” Eve questioned. Kora didn’t respond, she just rolled her eyes. “I can help you forget if you want.” Izzy spoke directly to Kora. “What?” “As a Phoenix, we have the ability to remove memories. I can take away everything you have learned in the past hour. You can go home and just think that Brayden was sick.” She didn’t respond, she just looked at Eve. “It’s OK Kora. I won’t be mad and you will always be my best friend. I will just have this one little secret from you.” “I don’t think I want to remember.” She whispered. Izzy took her hand and we all watched as fire seemed to leave her hands and spread over Kora, but she didn’t seem to feel it. “Brayden was sick. You dropped the kids off and went right home.” Kora’s eyes glazed over for a moment and Izzy stepped away. Kora gave Eve a hug goodbye and walked out. “Will that really work?” Eve questioned. “Yes, and it’s probably safer for her.” They talked for a short time before Izzy and Mikel left. I had no reason to stay, so I opened a portal back to our house. There was no need to hide it anymore. **Dustin** I couldn’t believe my mate was a phoenix. The sooner I could get her back to my realm the better. Izzy and Mikel left, Brayden went to bed and Kennedy was still locked in her room. “How are you doing?” I asked as I pulled Eve towards me. “Honestly?” “Of course.” “Overwhelmed,” Eve replied and tears started pouring out of her eyes. I held her and allowed her to cry. This has all been overwhelming for me. I can only imagine what this is doing to her. “I feel like I am going crazy.”
