Second Chance

Chapter 2

As soon as she turned, I linked my warriors for one of them to follow her. I wanted to know everything about her so I could see her again. 

Paying, we headed back to the hotel. It didn’t take long for the warrior to return. He provided me and Evan with her license plate number and her address. 

Evan wasted no time and called my Second, who was running my kingdom, and our computer guy. 

“He will have information for you by tomorrow.” Evan said, putting the phone down. 

“Call him back and have him send two more warriors. I am sending ours to watch her and let me know when she leaves.” 

He didn’t say anything but nodded and picked up his phone and called my Second back. Evan knew what it was like to have found his flame and had been with her for almost 14 years.

He also knew I had given up finding mine when I took a chosen flame 8 years ago. Emily was a little younger than me but seemed perfect to be a Queen. 

She was beautiful and witty but I always felt like something was missing. It took us 7 years before we finally were able to get pregnant and I had feared we wouldn’t be able to have children. But we were blessed with Adalyn and she was perfect. 

“He is going to send 4 warriors so they can swap watching our future Queen.” Evan told me, interrupting my thoughts.

“I can’t believe I found her. But I still don’t know how I’m going to get her to come home with me.” 

Evan laughed. “One step at a time, but I have a feeling this trip will last more than a few days.” 

I knew he was right and now all I wanted to do was take a hot shower and get some sleep before our meeting tomorrow. Heading back to the hotel, that was the first thing I did.

Standing under the hot water, all I could think about was Everly's curves. Her smile and the way she carried herself. I had never been with a woman that had curves like hers and I couldn’t wait. 

Realizing I was getting myself excited like a teenage boy, I quickly turned the water cold and finished my shower. After my shower, I opened a portal and kissed Adalyn goodnight before going to sleep.

I had never had a stranger pay for my meal in 40 years of life. He was so handsome and for some reason I couldn’t stop smiling as I made my way to my car. 

“So that was nice of that man.” My daughter said from the backseat.

“It was.” 

“Did he say why?” My son asked, from the driver's seat. He had just got his drivers permit and wanted to drive at every chance he could. 

“No, I didn’t ask.” 

The rest of the ride was silent as we made our way home. I couldn’t help but think of Dustin. When I shook his hand, I swear I felt sparks. 

But that was just crazy. I mean that man obviously worked out a lot and I was well thick. Plus, he looked to be at the most, in his mid thirties. What would he want with a 40-year-old woman? Shaking my head, I pushed the handsome stranger from my thoughts.

After a long night of restless sleep, I pulled myself out of bed and headed to the gym. Being a Kappi, you need an outlet. Sparing was the best, but this gym would do for now.

After a few hours of working out, I showered and was ready for my meeting with King Rowan of Thiva. The Kappi have multiple realms and multiple Kings, but only one King per realm. 

Sitting in the restaurant, it didn’t take long for Rowan to show up, with a young man and his warrior.

“Dustin. Thank you so much for meeting with me.” 

“Of course, Rowan, we are allies and we must be here for one another.” 

“I’m so glad you feel that way.” 

After ordering, Rowan wasted no time getting to the reason for the meeting. 

“This is my youngest son, Gavin. I am requesting he shadow you as a king.” 

“Why would he need to shadow me?” 

“To be honest, Gavin is wild and training my eldest to take over as King…. I don’t have the energy to deal with his behavior. He needs a strong king to keep him in line.” 

“Do you want to come to my realm, Gavin?” 

“I will do what my father thinks is best,” the young man said. 

“What finally pushed you to ask for help?” 

“My son decided to sleep with King Levi of Troy’s daughter. She believed they would be chosen flames and has caused a rift in our alliance.” 

“I never told her we would be flames.” Gavin said softly. Remorse showed on his face. 

“When did you plan to send him to my realm?” 

“I was hoping you could take him today. He has one year left of school and, well, I need to get him away before I am forced to have him take her as a chosen flame.” 

With that, I knew I would help the boy. We all make mistakes and being a young prince it is easy to get woman, but sometimes we don’t think with our brains. I would hate for a brainless mistake to impact his future.

“I will take him, but I am not heading back to my pack right away. Be assured I will help.” 

Relief filled both Gavin’s and his father’s faces. 

“I can’t thank you enough,” Rowan said. 

“Finding one's flame is important and a chosen flame… well, they can be tricky.” 

Most realms know what happened to me and my chosen flame and, because of it, a lot have chosen to wait and try to find their actual flame.
