Jessica’s pulse hadn’t slowed since he appeared. Her body was on edge, every nerve coiled like wire. She couldn’t tell if it was fear, fury, or something she didn’t want to name. Alex stood there as if he owned the space, sleeves rolled up, voice calm, posture deliberate. There was nothing hurried about him. He looked like someone used to waiting for people to come around to his terms. “Give me your phone,” he said simply. Jessica blinked. “What?” He extended a hand, palm open, steady. “Your phone. I’ll put my number in. Easier than tracking you down again.” Her stomach flipped. “No.” The word came out sharper than she intended. “You’re not getting my number,” she added, taking a step back. “You shouldn’t even be here.” Something flickered in his eyes, faint amusement, faint warning
