Kehlani
Nearly finishing straightening Tessa's hair after watching T.D. Jakes live church online a while ago, I apply some of the heat protectant on the last section of her hair and use a rat-tail comb to comb-chase from her roots to her ends. "So, Tess, are you super excited to go your first date with Chester?" I question while I carefully comb her fine textured tresses.
"Yeah," Tessa sighs. "But, I'm still concerned about dad's opinion about me going out on a date for the first time."
"Some dads may approve after the first date while some don't at first. Always remember that I will approve Chester as long as he treats you with nothing, but respect." I remind as I apply the rosy tinted Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm on her lips and she begins moving her lips while I trace the lip balm on my lips. The tip of my tongue tastes the flavor. "Tastes like Fruity Pebbles," I mumble and rub some castor oil between my fingers, lubricating my eyelashes as my natural mascara as my eyelashes form a wing on each corner of my eyes. "Mom, what was your first date with dad like?" Tessa queries just before I ponder on the first date Blake and I had eleven years ago at the Island Cinemas in Mastic.
"Your dad wanted him and me to see Night at the Museum, yet I wanted to go see Dreamgirls again since your grandma on my side of the family took me and your aunts to see that movie since I'm not much of a keen fan of Action movies. So, we went to see Dreamgirls just two days after Christmas." I explain to her while she's checking herself out in front of the mirror as she reminds me of a reflection of myself as an easygoing and self-confident thirteen year old, even though she will be ten with our birthdays being in the next two weeks.
"Ugh! I can't stand action movies since I would never watch that kind of movies. I like to watch movies like Space Jam, From Justin to Kelly, and Osmosis Jones." Tessa says while she giggles and I join with her around the same time, someone is pounding against the door.
"Kehlani Armani!" Realizing that one of my brothers, Kevin is shouting my nickname outside of my apartment door, I hush and close the cap of my lip balm as I roll my eyes while I walk to the door. My hand grips onto the knob of the door just as the door opens to reveal a furious look on Kevin's face. "Kehlani, who the f**k is Lilwayne Davis? Why are you friends with him on f*******:? Is he trying to be a wannabe rapper?" Kevin interrogates, raising his voice and slams the door shut.
"Hush up!" I shut him up. "You don't just barge up in my apartment as if you live here! Harper is taking a nap while Tessa is getting ready for her first date!" As soon as I mention that, Kevin tenses just as I watch his expression growing alert like one of the traits of a Rottweiler. I take a glance at Kevin clenching his fists as if he is ready to strike. "You mean to tell me that my niece is going out on her first date with some shorty," Kevin sucks his teeth. "What time?"
"This afternoon. Why does this matter to you?" I turn my head to see Tessa combing her tresses. "Blake is already losing his s**t over this just like you are right now. And I never forget how you, Tyler, and Anthony were at loggerheads when Blake and I started hanging out." I whisper and cross my arms in front of my chest with my hip jutting out. "That's because we didn't want that jerk-ass motherfucker hurting our baby sister and now, when it comes to our niece; we'll be like Martin Lawrence and Will Smith in Bad Boys 2 just like we were when you started hanging out with that knucklehead." Kevin hushes and someone knocks on the door. My first instant thought is probably Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien along with Chester, but I turn to read that it is merely 1:27 in the afternoon. I walk to the door and reply, "Who is it?"
"It's me!" I hear a familiar male voice respond and I open the door for him and the kids.
Blake
Kehlani opens the door for me and the kids to be in the middle between her and- f**k! One of her brothers, Kevin gives me this dark, death glare that must have like a long time while his teeth is baring at me. I thought Kehlani said that he, along with her other brothers are no longer mad at me, yet he does not look jovial to see me. I tell Theo and Kelly to play with their big sis. They both agree while Kevin snaps his head to Kehlani. "Yo, Kehlani, why the f**k is this scrub here?" Kevin points his finger at me. A scrub? He's calling me a scrub?
"Look, Kevin. I am not a scrub," I pause and reconsider. "Okay, I'm a scrub."
"Exactly!" Kevin exclaims. "And you're married with kids, but you won't marry my little sis and be there for my niece, bruh?"
"Kevin, Blake and I are co-parenting!" Kehlani argues, defending me. "Key, I thought your brothers are not mad at me."
"Well, I lied, motherfucker!" Kevin exclaims and just before he makes the first move, the doorbell rings. Thank goodness! Kehlani gets the door and the door reveals a Chuckie Finster look-a-like without the glasses and his flame red hair slicked to the side. "Who the f-" Just as I'm about to curse, I hear my mom shouting, "Blake Emerson Davis!" She then marches to my direction and slaps me upside the head. "Ah!" I inhale sharply, rubbing the nape of my neck in circles to let the stinging subside. "Sweetie, please excuse my nearly foul-mouth son," Mom glares at me before she faces the ten year old punk with an apologetic expression.
I huff and re-enter Kehlani's apartment to get a glass of water because to be honest; I'm getting really sick. As I am drinking my water, someone jabs me on my chest. "That is irresponsible for you to almost curse in front of a child- a ten year old boy, Blake!" Key scolds.
"Go to the living room and apologize to him, right now." She folds her arms in front of her chest. s**t, she looks hella alpha female and sexy when she does that and my eyes roam from her hips to her swing dress that is hugging her curves in all the right places.
After I finish drinking water, I lead the boy to the living room and sit on the tub chair while he sits on the couch just as I begin realizing the two responsible people that are related to the boy are no where in sight.
"Um, young man," I scratch the back of my neck. "Where are your parents?" I query with my eyebrows pulling together in confusion.
"My dad is going to pick my mom up from work until three o'clock this afternoon, Mr. Davis." He says. I begin to imagine a huge dark cloud floating above my head because I have to wait two hours for his parents to come back. What am I supposed to ask him for two hours? I turn my phone on to go on Google, searching for first date questions that I should interview the boy in order for him to get my approval of going out with one of my princesses. Once my research is done, my expression sobers into a cordial stance.
"Okay, what is your full name and where are you from?"I question.
"My name is Chester Winston O'Brien and I was born in Mastic Beach, but my family and I moved here when I was in the fourth grade last year, Mr. Davis." He responds.
"In your free spare time, what would you like to do?"
"In my spare time, I like to help my mom cook and clean as well as helping my grandparents at their bakery on the weekends and in summer, too." At first, I thought this boy is a troublemaker, who is exactly the kind a daughter can't take home to her father. Yet, here he is sitting in the mother of my daughter's living room with manners and a helping hand.
"Where do your grandparents work at?" I ask as I lean back in the chair with my forearms crossing behind my head. "Edgar and Scarlet's Bakery, where they serve the most delicious cannolis that makes,"
"Your life sweeter one bite at a time!" Chester and I speak at the same time, resulting in the corners of my lips turning up with impression. "My family and I enjoy your grandparents' cannolis!" I comment. He begins chuckling nervously that morphs into a comfortable one. "I'm glad that you like my grandparents' cannolis, Mr. Davis."
"What is your gifted talent?" I question.
"I like to do some parkour at the local park, but I like to play video games, watch sports on TV, and be involved for the Best Buddies club after school." Chester answers. This kid is benevolent!

"Last question, young man; why should I assent you to date my daughter?" I inquiry.
"You should allow me to date your daughter because I want to apologize to you, Tessa, and your wife that what I did to her was unacceptable. Another reason why I should date Tessa is because I can teach her how to make cannolis at my grandparents' bakery as well as taking things slow at a time since there are destinations in a relationship." Chester answers and I nod, approving his answer and I must admit; my baby girl can go out with this congenial young man.
"Thank you for answering all of my questions, but Tessa's mother and I are not married. Furthermore, I really want to apologize for being aggressive towards you. It was intolerable of me," I apologize.
Chester clears his throat. "It's okay, Mr. Davis. I get that you want to protect your daughter." Chester apprehends and I stand up from the seat to generously shake his hand while he stands up from the couch. His eyes avert from me to another direction. I turn to meet his gaze at my eldest daughter, who has her medium brown tresses with ash blonde highlights straight with the ends curled with perfection along as being dressed up just like her mother, who is showing her thick-like meat in her legs... Moisturizing legs... that she has, so I can apply lotion or oil on her skin just like I used to do unlike Phedora because whenever I try to massage her body with lotion, she ends up kicking me in her sleep.
The sound of the door being knocked on interrupts my mentality on Key's legs. She goes to open the door to reveal Chester's parents standing under the threshold. I look over to see my mom complimenting on Tessa and Kehlani from their hairstyles to their outfits when I notice that my baby girl is wearing a cold shoulder dress with pink and black stripes. She is most certainly not wearing a dress like that! Why can't she wear a dress that is sleeveless or with sleeves?
"Oh, Tessa, sweetie. You might need a cardigan. Some restaurants are chilly," Kehlani mentions as she rams her arms through the sleeves of her long sleeved cardigan. Yes, I'm glad Kehlani mentioned this! Everybody that is in Kehlani's apartment exits, including Kevin and my mom and right after I have the kids by my side, someone bumps into me by my shoulder in addition to facing Kevin giving me a nod before a smirk plays on his lips, leaning to my ear. "This is the first time I saw you lose your s**t over your daughter's date. I would never allow my daughter to date until she's married. Good looking out, man, but you won't get away with it after you dumped my baby sister. Be there for my niece." With that, he leaves.
