"Y-your boyfriend? But I thought you said you don't do boyfriends?" Tucker asked in pure disappointment.
I closed my mouth that’s been opened from shocked and amusement.
"Yes I did, but I changed my mind. I think I have the rights to change my mind, right?” she asked him in obvious sarcasm.
"You should have told me when you’re looking for one” Tucker said and I almost shake my head because the guy sounded so desperate.
Mandy slightly nudged me with her elbow.
She must be signaling me to do or say something.
"Hey Tucker, sorry to interrupt but we need to go" I told Tucker.
"But---" he said
"Let's go...baby" I almost choked from the last word that came out from my mouth then I opened the passenger’s seat for her.
"Hey, wait!" Tucker called out for her.
Mandy turned towards him.
"If ever that jerk will leave you, please tell me. Please! I'm begging. Accept my friend request in f*******:!" Tucker said.
Now, I’m literally shaking my head in utter disbelief.
This guy is pathetic indeed!
I looked down at her and a small grin was playing on her lips and she said:
" Sure Tuck! I will" she said and winked at him and the latter almost fainted.
I rolled my eyes.
I can't believe this lady!
She was clearly playing with him!
She ducked inside the car.
I glanced at her and saw her smiling wide.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked me.
"Why don’t you like him? I think the both of you look good together” I said.
"Because he's stupidly crazy about me and it is gross. I don't want a boy, I want a man" she said.
I smirked.
"But you winked at him. What was that about?" I asked.
"It’s just a wink, nothing else"
"But you made him hope for something other than just a wink! He will die hoping...poor guy"
"I actually don't care if he dies hoping" she said and shrugged.
I shook my head and started the engine.
We’re both silent during the drive. When we arrived at their mansion, she immediately hopped out from the car
"Why in a hurry?" I asked, wondering.
"I need to pack my bags. I will sleep in my flat tonight"
"Why?"
Her eyebrows rose to my question.
"I'm asking" I said.
"And why are you asking?" she asked back.
I rolled my eyes.
"Because I'll be there wherever you are" I said.
"I don't want you to be there. My flat is so small, only for girls. You’re so tall, you won’t fit!”
I smiled.
"You're being exaggerated" I said.
"Damn right I am"
"But I'm sure your father will not allow"
"I'll convince him" she said and walked towards their door.
She went straight to her father’s study room.
Me on her tail, like a damn puppy.
"Dad" she greeted her father and kissed him on the cheek
"I'll be staying at my flat tonight and I'll be home tomorrow" she simply said.
"Okay, take Ryan with you" Mr. Sevilla answered without even looking up.
He’s busy with his laptop.
"It's really unnecessary. I’ll be home early tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll be safe in that span of time”
Mr. Sevilla looked up finally.
"It is really NECESSARY that Ryan will go with you Amanda. You’re not safe. We should not risk it" Mr. Sevilla said.
“I cannot see any danger dad--"
"Someone sent me a death threat for you last week! Isn’t that enough for you to be scared?!” Mr. Sevilla shouted.
Clearly, he’s losing his temper. His daughter is really stubborn I must say.
Her shoulders tensed and she was silent for a moment.
"F-from who?" she asked, almost a whisper.
Suddenly I felt awkward by standing here in this room.
I feel so out of place.
"Nobody knows! Ryan's brother is still on it so please, just stick with Ryan and just don't be stubborn" Mr. Sevilla said.
"Okay, but I wonder where is he going to stay? I don't want him to stay with me, I need my privacy" Mandy said.
"Well, Ryan can stay in the same floor as yours. I’ll call someone to arrange it” Mr. Sevilla said while getting his phone.
Wow, it means they own the flatminium. Not just the unit but the entire building.
"Okay, fine" Mandy said, defeated.
"Please don't let her be out of your sight Ryan" Mr. Sevilla reminded me.
"Copy, sir" I answered.
10:00 PM
I'm on my bed, tossing and turning but still can’t sleep.
I can’t sleep knowing that my client has a death threat.
It’s a bodyguard’s main instinct to be alert in any place and time.
I can’t sleep knowing Mandy is in the other room.
I need to keep her within my sight to make sure she’s safe.
Hell, that girl is stubborn.
Her life is at stake here.
I can sleep on the sofa, I won’t mind.
Why do I need to sleep in a different unit? I always have anxiety for this kind of situation. My “what if” mindset is kicking in.
What if the enemy finds a way to be inside her room?
What if the enemy pretends to be a room service and barges in?
What if someone is pointing a gun or a knife at her forehead or her throat right at this very moment?
I sat upright.
A loud shriek made me jump out of my bed.
It’s from the next unit. It’s from Mandy’s!
I immediately ran outside my room.
I gripped the doorknob of her unit door but its lock.
"Mandy! Mandy! What's going on?! Open the door!" I shouted while knocking desperately on her door.
I don’t care if other tenants will come rushing from their units. I don’t care if I’ll cause a scandal.
Mandy is still shrieking and it sounded desperate!
A loud HELP ME came out from her so I decided to kick the door in.
Fear and adrenaline rushed in my veins.
I don't want to be late.
I need to save her!
I need to!
I kicked the door again, this time harder. It came out from its frame and fell loudly on the floor.
I immediately ran inside the unit.
"Mandy!" I shouted.
I find her room and quickly rush in.
And there she is!
Standing on the edge of her bed wearing a pink robe and staring disgustingly on the floor.
I followed her gaze to a...cockroach.
What the f**k!
"What the f**k?! All of this for a cockroach?!" I asked her in exasperation.
I ran my hands on my hair.
"Get that thing out of my sight! Now!" she demanded.
Disgust was really visible in her eyes.
I stepped on the cockroach and killed it.
"There, it's dead" I said, frustrated.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yes! I'm sure!" I answered, rolling my eyes.
She sighed in relief.
She slowly went down her bed.
I glanced at her face and saw her grinning.
"You're just wearing your boxers" she said, eyeing me.
I looked down and checked myself.
Yeah, I’m only wearing a white shirt and boxers.
I shrugged.
"I was trying to sleep and by the way, I kicked your door" I said calmly.
Her eyes go wide.
"What the hell? You really kicked in the poor door?!" she asked me with pure amusement in her eyes.
She immediately went outside her room to see the poor door lying on the floor
"See?" I told her.
Then, the security team in their flatminium shuffled in.
I smirked.
They are always late. Always!
"What happened here?" asked the head of security.
"False alarm chief! She just saw a disgusting cockroach. She has a phobia with roaches” I explained to them.
I don’t know exactly if Mandy has a phobia with roaches, I just assumed.
"What happened to the door?” he asked.
"I kicked it because I thought there’s an emergency. She was screaming and I didn’t have a choice. Sorry for that” I said.
The head of security just shake his head in utter disbelief. I can’t blame him. A door was broken just because of a cockroach.
"The maintenance can fix this in the morning. I’m afraid you can’t sleep without a door in your unit Ma’am” he said to Mandy.
I glanced at her.
"He’s right. It’s not safe" I said to her, firmly.
"I'll talk to them" she said and immediately went out.
I followed her and we went to the reception area.
"I need a new room or unit" Mandy told the receptionist.
"I'll check it miss" the receptionist answered and started checking her computer.
After a few seconds, she shook her head.
"Sorry miss, but all rooms and units are occupied right now. The last vacant room was the one your father made it clear for today” the receptionist said.
"What the hell?!" she shouted and some people in the lobby looked at our direction.
I shook my head.
She really doesn’t have any filter in her mouth.
I cleared my throat to get her attention.
"You don't have a choice, I guess. So, I'll suggest you will stay with me. In my unit" I told her.
Her eyes go wide again with amusement.
"I will not!" she said loudly.
"Yes, you are or do you want to go home now?" I challenged her.
"I don’t want to go home” she said.
"Ergo?" I asked.
"I don't want to sleep in your unit!" she said.
I squinted my eyes at her.
"Why? Are you afraid of me? Do you feel uncomfortable in my presence?” I taunted her.
"Of course not! Why would I?" she asked me, raising an eyebrow.
Then a playful grin spreads out on her face.
Oh no!
My heart beats faster seeing that grin.
