“How long did you say this’ll take?” Emily asked as she slipped her fingers into Fletcher’s hand as commuters bumped into them on the platform. He glanced at their hands now intertwined, then quickly focused down the train tracks to hide any reaction. He thought that if she could make a move to show affection and be so nonchalant about it, he didn’t want to ruin the moment by reacting surprised—just business as usual, like they’ve always held hands in public.
