Chapter 12
MadisonIt was the 22nd of December when Madison went to the bookstore to see Abby. She opened the door to Chapter Five and a waft of cinnamon and gingerbread greeted her.
The shop was dimly lit, supported by the glow of Christmas lights strung up throughout the place. “I’ll be right out,” Madison heard Abby call from the back office.
“It’s just me,” she called back. “Madison.”
Abby popped her head out of the office. It was clear from her expression that Madison’s presence was a surprise. “Hey,” she said. “I didn’t know you were coming. I was just about to close up. Did you need to get something?”
Madison shook her head. “I actually came to talk to you.”
“Me?” Abby frowned. She shut the door to the back office, giving the knob a twist to make sure it was locked. “What’s up?
