Sarah“Why didn’t you tell us sooner?” Kate asked Sarah during their weekly Tea for Three.
Sarah forced a smile. “There was too much going on. And I didn’t want any distractions from Louise and Philip’s wedding.”
“Oh, darling,” Louise said. “You shouldn’t have worried about us.”
“So, what exactly is happening now?” Kate asked.
Sarah exhaled slowly. It was hard to talk about it. “They’re checking for indications of Trisomy 21.”
Kate frowned. “Is it serious? What is Trisomy 21?”
Sarah crossed her legs. She’d scoured the internet for articles on Trisomy 21; if only to get a better understanding of it herself. “Well,”—she sighed—“babies are born with 46 chromosomes. Babies with Down syndrome have an extra copy of one. They call the extra one, chromosome 21.”
