KateKate shut the door and put her seatbelt on. She looked at herself in the rearview mirror and sighed. “What now?” she asked her reflection.
Just as she was about to pull out of her parking space, her phone rang. It was Sarah. “Hello?”
“Are you busy?” Sarah asked.
“Just about to leave work. What’s up?”
Sarah fell quiet at the end of the call.
“Sarah—is everything okay?”
“My baby has Down Syndrome,” Sarah said flatly.
“What?”
“The doctor just called and confirmed it.”
“Oh, Sarah...” Kate wasn’t sure what to say. Should she say she was sorry? “How are you feeling?”
“I don’t know,” Sarah said. “Kate, what am I gonna do?”
