AFTER SHE LEFT WORK, Kate found herself walking into St. Anthony’s Church. When she left for work that morning, the last thing she expected was to be told she was no longer needed. It had come as a surprise, although she really should have known it was coming. As soon as she walked through the giant arch doors of St. Anthony’s, darkness enveloped her. Kate listened to the echoes of her footsteps until the darkness lifted, slowly easing her into the cool embrace of the church.
