Kate“Come on,” Kate said to Adam as they entered the flower shop. “Hello-oh?” she sang.
“Hi!” Brooke called excitedly from behind the counter at Heaven Scent, coming out to greet them.
“You sure you’re okay to do this?” Kate hugged Brooke and handed Adam’s day bag to her.
“Are you kidding me?” Brooke took the bag. “Absolutely! We’re going to have heaps of fun. Aren’t we, buddy?” she turned to Adam, who grinned and nodded. “How are you feeling?”
“Nervous,” Kate said.
“What? No! You’re going to be awesome. Can you stay for a cup of tea?”
“Maybe just one?” Kate checked the time on her phone. “Or no—I shouldn’t. I really should just go and get it out of the way.” It was the first day of Kate’s CNA training. After the conversation she had with her mom, Kate asked around at the Reti
