Chapter Fourteen

Kendra Those words came unexpected. Proud, Arrogant, cold and Pompous. I hate him... I fvcking hate him. I probably expected too much from him. How very stupid of me to think that someone like me could ever hold someone like him. Ellie may be the worst, but she was right to warn me against him. I should have listen when she said that Chase will be done with me soon enough… I should have heed her words as a warning instead of a threat. I am trying to get the picture of what happened between Alpha Chase and i out of my head, to forget all the horrible things he said to me, but the soreness between my folds keep reminding me of our sinful did. My thighs feel soft and bruised, a jarring reminder that I just lost my virginity to a jackass. “Kendra!” Cassie slaps me on the back, jolting me out of my thoughts. “The kid, he's going to get hurt.” She points me towards the book shelf in my Dad’s old study, adjacent the living room. My eyes fly open in shock as I sight one of the children we are babysitting climbing the bookshelf to reach my Mum's favorite jar. I panic, seeing how violently the shelf is shaking, sending some of the books to the floor. I quickly rush over to hold the shelf up just in time before it reaches the ground. “Get down from there, Luca.” I yell at him, red-eyed. My heart is beating fast. “You could have gotten injured.” He jumps and lands on the floor with a thud. “I’m sorry, Kendra. I just wanted to see the jar.” His sincere-sorry face on the floor as he apologizes. “How did you get in here anyways? I snap, my brow furrowing heavily. If he got hurt I would have been blamed for it as always. My mum would’ve called me clumsy and stupid. “Now, Go back to the others.” I point him to the door. I watch as he disappears through the door and then turn my angry face to Cassie who is texting away on her phone. “Why did you not stop him?” “Because it’s not my turn to watch them.” She responds nonchalantly, her eyes still glued on her phone. Pressing my fingers on my temple, I take a deep breath to calm my nerves. “ Cassie, he could have gotten hurt.” She shrugs. “ but he didn’t.” Talking to Cassie or trying to reprimand her is useless, she is a self absorbed b***h. Cassie is two years younger than me. She's a spoilt brat, has always been. She is also overtly proud of her good looks and never thinks twice before insulting me for my look and small frame. She has never made an attempt to shift before because she thinks it’ll mess up her long blond hair and perfectly manicured nails. She is lazy, the only time you’d see her doing anything is when she’s in front of the mirror obsessing over her curves or sorting outfits to wear to a party. She has no qualms about lying for petty issues, implicating me for something wrong she has done is no big deal. When I was in grade school, I got brutally beaten up by Dad because Cassie fired his gun into a neighbors Compound. The bullet mistakenly hit and damaged their car windshield. when they came over to the house to complain to my parents, Cassie told them she saw me playing with the gun. The list of her terrible lies that I’ve been punished for goes on and on… She’s self centered and promotes herself all the time. Even my mother appreciates her and I feel completely ignored, unappreciated and unwanted. She lies and everyone just believes her, after all she's the smaller child and a little Barbie. I haven’t forgotten how she told Ellie about my cat, Coco. That was suppose to be a f*****g secret! I am still picking up the books on the floor and arranging them back on the shelf when I hear loud cheering from the children, seemingly excited over something or someone they’ve seen. I look up and see Cassie rolling her eyes away from where she is slouched on the couch opposite the study. From where she is, one can clearly see everything in the living room. “Princess Anna!, Yeeeeeh!!” A little girls voice screeches. I can hear their voices from where I am but can’t see them. “Princess Anna, tell us a story.” One of the children’s voice rings out. “pretty, pretty please!” another begs. “Alright, alright Children… settle down.” She says, giggling. I pick the remaining book and push it in-between rows of other books before walking into the living room. The children are excitedly running around her and pulling on her dress. I clap my hands together and they quiets down. The dead look in my gaze is enough to make them disperse, taking their seat immediately. Anna whooshes. “This is one hell of a tedious job.” “You can say that again.” I give a small sheepish laugh. “ I’m sorry about this, Anna.” I apologize. “Its totally fine. I like cute little pups.” She says, affectionately squeezing Lisa's cheeks.” “Will you tell us the story?” Lisa asks, giving her a perfect adorable puppy-dog eyes that you’d hardly say no to. “Who am to say no to you when you look this cute.” She says, shaking her head playfully as she crouches to rub her nose on Lisa's. “Now, come sit next to me.” “Anna, you really don’t have to..” “Why not? Don’t worry, I can handle one story .” she waves me off, and walk back to sit on the couch. She lifts Lisa up and settles her on her laps. “I will hold them down while you get changed.” “Get changed?” I ask, surprised. “Are we going somewhere.” “I need your help planning for the Royal Mask. Apparently, Ellie can’t do anything right. If I don’t step in, the whole event will be ruined.” “Royal Mask?” I ask, my bottom lip juts. “Chase’s Mating ceremony. You haven’t heard?” Her answer made my heart ache and my head swirl. “It’s next week. The news is everywhere…” “What?” My voice is faint when i finally find words. “Chase is… getting married?” She laughs hysterically, and when she quiets down, she snorts. “Funny, right?... Chase is getting married.” She says it like she almost doesn’t believe it herself. I need to find a way out of the situation. I can’t be in the palace making arrangements for Chase and Ellie’s happily ever after. Seeing them together will certainly kill me. “Well… I have to admit, I’m not really perfect with this whole ceremony planning myself and Ellie is refusing to use help from the servants”. “Why?” She shrugs. “ I don’t know… Something about them being to low to touch anything related to her.” I roll my eyes and click my tongue. “Rubbish!...Then she wouldn’t want me there also, don’t you think?” “ She doesn’t have a choice. I made it clear to her that I won’t help unless you’re there… I need your help, Kendra.” she pleads. “Believe me, Anna, I really want to help, but If I leave, who will look after the children?” “I will.” Cassie chips in. “ I will cover for you.” This is new. Cassie never does anything for anyone except if she benefits from it. Why is she volunteering to help me all of a sudden? Stalking up to us she says, “ I Know what you must be thinking, sis… that I don’t help for free, right?” Before I have the chance to speak, she pins me with an unrelenting stare and chuckles, “If that’s what you're thinking, then you’re absolutely right. 200 box for my service.” She demands and plops on the couch, placing one leg on top the other. I gasp. “Are you insane? Where do you expect me to get that kind of money from?... I don’t need your help, I’ll take care of them myself.” I bluff, relieved that Anna won’t have a choice but to leave without me. My Dumb kid sister who places price tag on everything just played her games in my favor… or so i thought, until Anna starts unzipping her purse. “I can handle that.” … Anna dips her hand into her purse and flashes out 200 box. “ is this all you want, Cassie?” Scornfully smiling, she swipes the currency off Anna's hand and slides it inside the back of her jeans pocket. “Go and have fun, Sis”. After what Chase did to me, I promised myself that I’ll avoid him, and now I have to plan his ceremony? Sometimes, I think fate just have a way of playing a cruel game on me.
