This was a rare opportunity. I took out my improvised weapon, which I had practiced using earlier. Aiming for the one-eyed black wolf's neck, I threw the rope with the stone and silver needle attached. The silver needle, driven by the weight of the stone, plunged straight down, piercing the black wolf at a spot just a bit behind the neck. Luck was on my side, and the needle struck its heart. It fell instantly, without even a whimper. The other black wolf, seeing its comrade collapse, quickly became alert and looked around, soon spotting the direction from which the rope had come. I had been trying to pull the needle back, but it was harder than expected due to the needle being embedded in the wolf's body, plus the added weight of the stone.
