"Good morning sweetheart," Sage announced as he stood by the stove cooking breakfast.
"Why didn't my alarm go off?" I asked, holding my cell in my hand as I rested my other hand on my hip.
"I turned it off. Your boss said you should take a few days off, so that is what you're going to do," Sawyer said as he walked over to me with a cup of coffee. He handed me an iced coffee with whipped cream and caramel syrup.
"That isn't your decision. I wanted no, I needed to go in today," I stated, crossing an arm around my waist and sipping my drink.
"Hey don't take it out on us love, we're only following your boss' orders," Sage uttered as he scraped scrambled eggs onto a plate. "Now, come sit down and have some breakfast with us. I made eggs, sausage, biscuits, and grits,"
"Come on, sit down. We can talk about what we want to do today," Sawyer muttered as he pulled out a chair for me to sit.
"Aren't you going to work?" I questioned as I took a bite of sausage, looking between my two mates.
"No, we called our secretaries this morning and got our schedules cleared," Sage spoke as he stuffed his mouth full of eggs. "I'd like to go to a museum somewhere,"
"That's crazy, you can't skip work. Why are you skipping work? Because of me?" I inquired as I angrily stabbed at my eggs with my fork.
"Slow down there, sweets." Sawyer voiced out as he placed his hand on my arm. "Yes, we did take off of work for you, to be with you. We want to spend every day that we can with you. Work isn't everything, we spent years working, we can take some days off." He smiled as he shoveled a spoonful of grits into his mouth.
"That's crazy, work is my life. I practically live there, and I rarely ask for time off. I mean William is like my father, he relies on me for everything." I stated as I finished my last bite of biscuit before walking over to put my plate in the sink.
"Okay, what happened with him?" Quizzed Sage as he walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my hips. "He looked a little depressed like he's holding onto some big secret. And you never want to leave Mr. Stone, you somehow believe if you aren't there he won't function. Tell us what's going on."
"It's a long story," I sighed walking into our shared master bedroom.
"It's a good thing, we have all day then," Sawyer joked as he followed behind his brother and me.
"Okay, fine. Truth is, a few years ago you know before the company was almost in ruin. William, Mr. Stone, had a partner and best friend, Arnold Miller, and they ran the business perfectly. Well, Mr. Miller lost his wife so he sort of threw himself into work which was great, the company was making substantially more money. That is until a young blonde walked in, she was Arnold's second chance mate. She convinced him to start draining the funds from the company and when Mr. Stone found out he questioned everyone but his best friend of over thirty years. When he finally realized it was Arnold and his mate, Betty who stole the funds it was too late. They left for some island and we haven't heard anything since." I sighed again as I sat on the bed. "That's why we are under the boat and need a bailout. That's also why I can't leave him, he's a train wreck and doesn't know who he can trust." I forced myself off the bed and walked over to the closet to get dressed.
"Well, we weren't given much on how the funds were drained but I'm glad we do now," Sage remarked as he pulled down his dark blue and green checkered pajama pants.
"Oh, that won't jeopardize you putting in to save the building right?" I asked putting my hand to my lips.
"No, of course not, my precious," Sawyer declared as he removed his maroon-colored shirt. "We signed the papers, we're invested. But we will be running in-depth background checks on everyone who works there, and we won't be silent partners. We can't allow something like this to happen again." I wasn't angry because he said that, it was true. We can't afford for anything like that to happen again so I understand on a professional level, though I know William might have an issue.
"So, have you decided what we will be doing today, beautiful?" Sage questioned as he slipped on a hunter-green t-shirt and dark blue jeans.
"I wouldn't mind a museum," I mentioned as I took out a flowered sundress and slipped it on.
"That's great, I also want to go to an aquarium," Sage commented as he pulled a gray t-shirt over his head.
"Lovely," I said grabbing my yellow sandals from the bottom of the closet. As we began heading out the door my phone started ringing and the name 'William Stone' ran across my screen. Which was unusual because he never called me, ever. He always made his assistant call my assistant to call me. This must be something major. "Hello?"
"Oh, good little bird, I got you. I wasn't completely sure if this was your number," Mr. Stone uttered, sounding relieved.
"Yes, this a good number. William, what's wrong?" I questioned as I switched the phone to the other ear looking at Sage.
"I called The Pavolv's but their assistants keep telling me that they aren't taking calls," William mumbled sounding stressed.
"Yes, I'm with them, should I put them on?" I inquired as I looked at Sawyer.
"Yes, oh, yes, please!" William urged as he put his mouth closer to the phone, to where I could hear him breathing.
"It's William Stone," I covered my hand over my cell. "He said he's been trying to contact your office but your secretaries wouldn't put him through. I think it's urgent," I held out the phone for one of them to take.
